Is there such a huge difference between being seen in your bra vs. bikini top?

I posted a photo of me 2 weeks into working out to show the slight difference it has made just by working out. I thought NOTHING of me being in a bra at all. Then I get a text from my sister "Why are you posting pics of you on Instagram with a bra on? LOL...that's not classy and it can hurt yourself professionally"

    This is the photo:

I don't see the huge deal at all. She says underwear is private and intimate. My sisters, cousin, and friend agree with her. So if I were to put on a BLACK BIKINI top (it would look nearly identical! )they're saying it's OKAY or a sports bra...because it's meant to be seen.

Here is a picture of a black bikini top...doesn't look much different than what I'm wearing!

To prove my point I was kinda immature and sent them the pic of this

I'd say it is up to you, not them, what you feel comfortable sharing and with whom.

But don't you think it's stupid that I can't post up a pic of me with a bra showing on the same amount of skin as a sports bra or bikini top? It's not like you can see through it or see my nips lol

So annoying! Makes me want to get a separate account. Just a couple weeks ago my sister (a different one) got on me for "liking" a sexy photo of a girl and said that it's very trashy and women shouldn't do that if they're married or have children. She was fully clothed and hardly showing skin, it was just her pose and the look.

    Yes, I do.

But I also don't think it makes sense to let their opinion difference bother you. Let them apply their logic to their own lives. ;)

Is this the same sister that had such a problem with you liking a picture of your friend, but the same basic picture of HER friend was cool?

If it is, just tell her you're sexy and into fitness. Since that's why the other girl's photo was okay.

(to answer your question, no. There isn't really a difference at all.)

Actually NO, a different sister LOL. My oldest. I think maybe it's a age thing? She's 38 so maybe her mindset is different. She was confronting me and I felt attacked yet she was like "But that's your opinion =)" I replied "Yeah..I know"

But I asked my other sister who is closer to my age and my female cousin and they agreed that it's TABOO for underwear to be seen.

I think it's about time to get a separate account LOL if I'm going to keep getting judged and confronted by my sisters!!!!

On facebook, I have people grouped so that some people will see, say, that scathing article on US drone strikes, but my tea party relatives will not. You have to choose your battles. If I were you, I would use groups to control who can see what I post and preserve the peace in my family. And save myself the headache.

I'm going to risk being very honest here. I'm not taking sides, just making an observation that might or might not be worth thinking about.

Your bra shows a lot of boob. No nipples, nothing you wouldn't see at the beach, but a lot of flesh regardless. That carries the potential of causing a lot of "Yeah, baby, yeah!" reactions. Fair or not, that is something to consider when posting photos of yourself on the net.

    MM's advice sounds spot on.

As a man, I'm confused. These garments cover the same amount of skin. In some cases it would seem that women's bathing attire provides less coverage than their underwear.

As a brainwashed tool from the military, I wear underwear that also serves as running shorts and swim trunks. If you can handle a man in short-shorts, I'm sure as hell not shy.

    ...

    Don't be a pig.

Yeah, people are just going to have their own peculiar standards of modesty sometimes. You either avoid sending them anything that shows any skin, or you just ignore their squawking.

Personally, I agree there is objectively negligible difference between a bra and a bikini top. I like seeing a girl in her bra a bit more, because it's underwear, and therefore usually intended not to be seen; but I also admit this is a wholly irrational and subjective attitude.

I wish that every woman on the planet would post a photo of themselves in a bra (or whatever) on the internet and get this stupid shit over with.
    Fucking puritans.
    Granted, I'm a dreamer.

I think everyone is saying that it doesn't make a difference.

Explanation needed for the "pig" comment. Should I post a hopefully homorous oink, oink comment, or should I be offended?

    Okay...
Men and women should be able to post whatever they want on the Web without receiving any kind of reaction. If my current woman wants to post a picture of herself holding a beer bottle with just her tits or if I wanna post a picture of myself grabbing my ankles in some spandex, it isn't there for you to react to like we're just some pieces of meat displayed purely for your amusement. Take a moment to think about how you're objectifying these people and their attempts to show their bodies as art.

Sometimes I can't tell when you're being serious or not, Niner.

I think what he's saying is not that HE would say that, but other people might, and to just be aware of that.

Thank you for the explanation. I'm not attempting to objectify anyone. I made my post to explain why some people were telling Chelle the bra photo was inappropriate. Some people will look at the photo and think that her workouts are really paying off (the desired reaction IIRC). Others will think nice boobs. It is what it is, fair or not.

    You don't say!

    ...

I wonder if there is a similar issue to dudes posting shirtless pics of themselves in their underwear vs. themselves shirtless at the beach. It seems like society needs to run these things to ground.

CG, me too, that's why I asked for an explanation. Your summary is correct.
