so a friend of mine wants to sign up for a class with me. it's a good opportunity because i'm perpetually single so i'd like to pick something i couldn't do on my own. besides the obvious dance class which might not be appropriate because she has a boyfriend, i thought i'd fish for ideas on here.

    thoughts?

I don't really have any suggestions, but...

I'm trying to figure out why her having a boyfriend has anything to do with a dance class. It's not a Kama Sutra class or something like that. Dancing is something you can do with your grandmother, or your father, in front of a crowd of people. I just don't understand why it would be inappropriate.

Most dance classes that I'm familiar with split you and your partner up anyhow, because not every dancer is identical.

it just seems like something awkward to tell your SO that you're going off to take with someone else. maybe it's just me idk.

unless you're talking about the forbidden dance.... the lambada or horizontal mambo.

Why does it have to be something you couldn't do on your own?

well, it doesn't but i could take a class on my own anytime and there's no guarantee of when i'll have another chance to take a class that requires a partner.

There's absolutely nothing overtly sexual about dance classes. Nothing at all.

I can see the hesitation if the boyfriend is the jealous/insecure type. My wife would have a stroke if I took dancing classes with another woman. (Assuming that dancing is something I'd be interested in, which I'm not. So I guess she would have a double stroke then....)

While I would agree with you there, many people who disagree. Having had personal experience with multiple dance classes over a period of approximately 15 years I know that is the case. People who take dance clearly just want to dance and improve their art. I recall personally having a boyfriend once who was so completely jealous over my male dance partners it ultimately led to a break up. I am pretty stubborn when I know I am in the right, it was a good choice in the end.

As far as classes go to meet females I would recommend dance, yoga, cooking (girls love a guy who wants to learn how to cook) but one thing I would caution you on would be that it must interest you or you will come out looking really shallow in the end if/when it is discovered you had zero interest. Maybe a class isn't most ideal but something more of a group activity like joining a hiking, wine/beer tasting or biking club or something like that? Check out your local papers and see what sort of community education courses are available at the local community center and see what you find.
