How many forums are you a part of? Wich one do you like the best and why? Do you use the same or different username?

Ill go first. I am a member of 5 online forums. I like this one the best because of the people and the relationships i have made with some of yall. 3 other forums are automotive related cause i like to help people, and sometimes you can save yourself alot of money by listening to someone who knows what there talking about. After 15 years, i like to atleast think i know a little.
I use the same username for all 5 forums. So if you ever see my username odds are its me.

    I'm a forum monogamist.

I used to be a part of a forum for an online Neverwinter Nights community. We used the forum for game issues and for out-of-game roleplaying. But I stopped playing, and so I don't go to the forum anymore.

I wonder if they're still around. They were working on a Neverwinter Nights 2 version of the same realm. It could be up by now for all I know.

    Hmm...

I've been active on probably a couple dozen forums over the years, including owning one in the past that had a couple thousand posts a day for a couple years in it's prime. I currently have six or seven forums in my "favorites", but I only visit maybe 3 on a daily basis. This is the forum I'm second most active on. There is one very large forum (28k members, 14M posts) I help run as admin that I'm most active on. I also have been active on one of the HD forums the last couple of months. The forum I run and this one are my two clear favorites, for very different reasons. I like the community vibe here at TFP. It's just busy enough to keep me engaged, but small enough that you can get a feel for most of the regulars.

Only 2 for the most part.
    Here
And since I'm a database specialist, DBforums (and there it is not at all to socialize, just to ask questions or answer them on tech)

Every once in a blue moon, I'll join one briefly for one specific purpose or another.
But it's rare that I ever do anything or interact at all. Mostly it's just for info, background or a perspective on a particular topic.
Like one specializing in Sjogren's for my wife, for example. I think DnD or Civilization for others.

Funny I don't do any in science or physics, considering my love of that.
But I'm private about my science and ideas.

Besides, I don't like getting into discussions about it,
I find that most others aren't open to advanced ideas and cannot absorb the abstract on the Net.
I end up usually arguing points against linear close-minded thinkers who get the real idea wrong, and keep harping on the common mistaken idea.
You'd be surprised how many still get General Relativity incorrect.
It's like they are science trolls. ( BTW, in IT this is true too, often they can't handle the more advanced topics or questions)

I only discuss & work with professionals and professors IRL.
With them, I can take time with to review and prove and they know to work with the real concepts & math

I use the same nick in each.
My real name or portions of, never.

I am a member of at least a dozen forums. This is the only one I post at.
There are 2 others I stop in at once in a great while. They are both pretty much dead so it doesn't take long to get caught up.
The rest were specific forums (camera, aquarium, auto) that I registered for to get a question answered.

Member of two forums, but this is the only one I regularly post on. The other one died years ago and I drop by every 1-2 months to catch up.

Liking this place the most, as it has the most interesting array of personalities I've come across. We may not all like each other, but the wide diversity is what makes it great to me.

I do enjoy my privacy, though.

There are three forums I look at every day: This one, and two related to cycling.

  10. Freetofly

Only two, Wikipedia in which I have learned quite a bit from those folks related to articles and here at TFP. Here I put a lot of what is in my head, things I would never say in public or around family. Those folks would have me locked up I believe. :) Good Therapy.
It's a good vibe here for sure.

Right now I only belong to three forums: this one, a religious education forum, and a rabbis' forum. But I've belonged to a number over the years: various religious forums or Judaism forums, forums on magic and mysticism, and pop culture forums....

This is it for me. I forum for school and thus beyond this, my foruming is highly limited. I used to be a part of a collegiate forum that has since died.

I've not even considered going to another forum. Not out of a blins sense of loyalty; it's just not occurred to me to look around. TFP has alowed me an outlet for some things that I couldn't say in polite company, and I've found a community of people who either respect each other's differences or don't say anything if they don't. On my computer, I keep two browser windows open all the time: Facebook and TFP. All else is secondary.

Years ago, I was on another forum where a member posted something from TFP. It took me a while to warm to the TFP but once I did, I haven't left.

I am nowhere near as active as I once was, but that's just life changing.

I started with Nintendo NSider when I was about thirteen. Once I started angsting, I made a lot of enemies, so I left (I would later join NSider2, with far less angst, but I lost interest in Nintendo products so I stopped going there after a time too). When I had a 360 I would occasionally go on the MS forums.

I used to go on the forums in DeviantArt too (mainly Help With Life, Complaints, General, and the tech boards). I made a lot of friends on the Complaints board and was able to help a few people out in HWL. But again, angst caused me to leave that one. I would also go on the DeviantArt chat rooms.

I've tried the TeenHub and Student.com forums but they weren't all that good. I've been on the 4chan, 7chan, 99chan and 420chan image boards, but I mainly lurk. Then we have the Dollars BBS, DollarsGroup (rarely), and the TFP. That should cover all of them.

Music forum developed around their recording and mixing software that I use.
I am no longer active on that one because I decided to take down a troll who had for twelve years succeeded in bullying members whilst staying below the radar of the mods, thus poisoning the community. It requred a sacrifice move on my part but he's now permabanned (as am I) and people can now simply get on with their music.

    Pianoteq forum
Great discussions on acoustic modelling with specific reference to piano. I have hardly made comments on it and spend most of my time as an I-Am-Not-Worthy lurker. Only today, I read a technical post that was sheer poetry.

BeyondUnreal Forums - Powered by vBulletin
The Unreal community whose game, Unreal Tournament, I still play every day after thirteen years. In march this year, one of the members visited me whilse over on holiday. It's amazing how Brutal, Bloody and Godlike WARRIORS .... look and sound Sooooooooooooooooooooo
Sooooooooooooooooooo ..... different in real life :D

The Unreal community includes some much younger members than TFP, and that gets reflected in content and levels of exhuberance. It can be a much more rowdy place, but there's a similarity of flavour in that, like the FTP, it is actually a SAFE place to be. Moderators and experienced members take pride in refining the balance between open style and content, and protocols for respect and damage-limitation.

I am also member of various tech forums for sound engineering and gear, but mainly as a reader with occasional posting to give or request advece.

Was it collegeweb? I still have some pretty close friends from that site. At least the ones from OSU.

I really only visit TFP anymore. I used to frequent a women's cycling forum, and I'm a member of a couple automotive ones but I never really visit/participate - it's really just there if I get ambitious or need to research a problem.

This is it for me. As long as Reddit doesn't count as a forum, anyway. I'm not sure what I'd call it.
