I'm curious as to what everyone here has done for big-time romantic trips... while maybe luring in some suggestions.

Everyone in my age group has been doing this left and right. Haven't really seen anyone do one that I'm jealous about... We've been researching and looking up ideas for honeymoon / anniversary style romantic getaways. I'm really open to anywhere in the U.S or Canada that isn't going to break the bank. We hate sitting around, will want to stay active but not rough it.

    My top picks:
Washington State - Coastal, Mountains, Seattle
Southwest - Moab, Arches, Grand Canyon
    California - Coastal
    Florida - Keys
    Canada?
    Maine - Acadia
    NY - Adirondacks

Can't really add too much more to this post right now, but will aim to keep it moving if all possible.

I've heard that Asheville, NC can be a good honeymoon-esque trip, although I haven't been there.

If it were me, at this time of year I'd be heading somewhere with plenty of sun. During the summer, I'd be off to the mountains and hopefully find a peaceful lake to explore around.

I've been there, and it is really nice. I saw the Banff one too. I don't even want to know how much a room for a night in July would be.

But, I was staying in the hostel in Banff (could be just as fun on Friday night), and the campground at Lake Louise that has an electric fence around the perimeter to keep the bears out.

Kauai. Five-star resort on the beach. A gift from my in-laws. It was wonderful, delicious paradise. Kauai is the world's best garden. We've been back twice now. We love, love, love it.

However, the only reason I can see going to Asheville is for the beer and the Jane. Those are about the only good things around.

I'm a weird one (no shit sherlock) and I enjoy going up north in the winter to watch the atlantic. Why? because it seems so angry and it's actually kind of soothing.

If you want a great place to go that has plenty of sun, check out the Sarasota side of Fl. There are some barrier islands (Lido Beach etc)right over the bridge that have rental houses and hotels. Plus, if you enjoy a quiet area and a good art scene, it's win win. It's a bit pricey but for me, there's no better place in FL.

Are you in to winter activities? Because if you are you could have a great time somewhere like the Adirondacks over the winter with skiing, snowmobiling etc.
Lake Placid is a very romantic winter village.
If you are not winter lovers then I would second the suggestion on Hawaii above.
Kauai and the big island are spectacular. I have also heard that about Maui but have never been there.

The other cool place to stay in Central Oregon (besides all of the big resorts) that is close to downtown Bend is this: http://www.mcmenamins.com/421-old-st-francis-school-home We stayed there on the Vacation from Hell and I really want to go back when I'm not doped up on Vicodin.

    We're thinking summer / fall.

Aside from the physical activities, camping, and looking at views of the hills... what else would one do in typical mountains? I dearly love the mountains for camping, hiking, and long ass motorcycle rides but I haven't actually done anything like this in the mountains before.

Our favorite summer activities in the Adirondacks are hiking, backpacking (less as we get older) and particularly canoeing and canoe camping (more as we get older 'cause the boat carries the load).
There are very nice B&B's to stay at where you can also get some quality hammock time, romantic meals, great mountain views.
Or if you choose you can just shack up in your room and screw like bunnies!

Central Oregon has a lot of lakes up in the mountains, and so we usually do some canoeing, camping, hiking, and swimming. We tend to go there every summer because we like it so much, and depending on our budget, we can camp the whole time or stay in a hotel part of the time. On our honeymoon, we took the opportunity to explore some areas we hadn't in a long time, namely the various lava fields and lava tubes south of Bend, which was very interesting.

Here's a picture from this last summer that I took while canoeing on Sparks Lake. The mountain in the picture is South Sister (there are three Sisters total):

we dont typically get around much, but when we do we always go to the mountsins. the blue ridge mountains are about 2 and a half hours from our house and we love going there. just nice and quiet. typically we dont do anything at all

  16. Moab/Arches is quite beautiful and if you want to stay active, there's plenty to do. Should you choose to go this route, it gets VERY hot in the summer, so your best bet is spring or fall. I've only ever camped in the area so I'm not sure what there is as far as accommodations go, but with Moab's surging popularity in the past decade or so I'm sure you could find something good if you didn't want to camp.

Hubby and I went to Puerta Vallarta for our "honeymoon" - we got married when he was in the service and didn't have time for a real honeymoon. We went to Mexico for our 5 year anniversary, and it was pretty romantic.
