Holiday Music Suitable for Work Party - Not religious

Discussion in 'General Discussions' started by ZombieSquirrel, Dec 12, 2013.

  1. Someone put me in charge of decorating and setting up the overall ambiance for the office Christmas party. Yeah, I don't know who thought that was a good idea.

Anyway, along with Muppet snowflakes I was thinking of having some music. Festive holiday music would be nice as long as it's not about Jesus or Dreidlels.

Here's this list I have come up with so far:

    Jingle Bells
    Sleigh Ride
    Silver Bells
    Let it Snow
Baby It's Cold Outside (the date-rape drug song)
    Carol of the Bells
    Winter Wonderland
Most Wonderful Time of the Year

That won't cover the 2 hours that the party is supposed to last?

Any more ideas? Otherwise, I'll be slipping in some random instrumental/jazzy music.

    THANKS!

Do you want to stick to traditional songs, or are you open to pop trash? 'Cause the first two I thought of were "Last Christmas" by Wham! and "All I Want For Christmas is You" by Mariah.

There's also Jingle Bell Rock, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, just about anything by Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Blue Christmas, Carol of the Bells (I like the instrumental versions better), Dominick the Donkey...

I also love Please Come Home For Christmas, River, and Fairytale of New York, but those aren't really, um, festive.

The entire soundtrack to Charlie Brown Christmas, by Vince Guaraldi. It's jazzy and nostalgic.

Mannheim Steamroller has a bunch of Christmas albums

    more serious suggestion

one of my all time favourites in this genre and one of the few I actually enjoy hearing this time of year (but all of these songs are still better in June/July by far)

  6. I have to go through the songs I have listed as I don't know all the lyrics, but I'm trying to stay away from the words Christmas.

Eek. That eliminates Silver Bells, Most Wonderful Time..., Carol of the Bells, and my entire list except the instrumental stuff.

  8. Yeah... "not offending" anyone is hard.

Hmmm...well, if it's called a "Christmas" party, I would think secular songs that only mention Christmas as the holiday name would be okay. If not, I'm thinking straight-up jazzy instrumental stuff would be the way to go.

  10. It's not a Christmas party...it's a holiday party. I goofed in my original post. When i tried to fix it, it wouldn't let me.

There's a great instrumental album called "A Festival of Carol in Brass" very festive, with no lyrics to offend the grinches. 25 songs, all Christmas "seasonal" instrumentals. Unfortunately, one of the songs does have "G*d" in the title. The horror.;)
With no lyrics, people could make up their own. There're some great ribald versions of The Twelve Days...
Download it from Amazon for $7.99

Well the major holiday is christmas, but I think if you cut out all the religious themes you should be fine. A favorite song of mine is the kinks father Christmas.

For the past couple of years, the Something Awful forums have put together albums of Awful Christmas Music. They're all available for free here

If nothing else, put "Ho Ho Ho It's Christmastime" in your mix. It's entirely inoffensive, but hilarious the first time and infuriating on repeat playthroughs.
