So several weeks ago, there was a water main break in my neighborhood. Water was flowing down my driveway like a river for several hours. It caused part of my yard to get flooded and a lot of debris to be deposited.

A couple weeks ago, I was fixing up one of the gardens that was affected by the water and found a phone (Samsung S5) under one of the plants. I almost didn't even see it as it was a black otterbox case and the phone was face down. The camera lens caught my eye.

Knowing the amount of water that flowed over that area, I figured the phone was junk and almost just tossed it. Out of curiosity, I busted the case off (the amount of dried crud on it was substantial) and plugged it in.

It took a charge and powered up. Apparently otterbox cases are worth the money.

It had a pattern screen lock on it but I saw a notification bar about updated gmail stuff and an email address. I sent an email asking if they lost a phone and never got a reply.

The other day I was messing around with it and guessed the pattern lock. I now have full access to the phone. It seems to be in perfect working order. The email I sent earlier seems to have been sent to the person that lost it.

Its been close to 2 months since they lost the phone. There are no new emails or messages dated after a couple days after it was lost. What would you do with the it?

I would look through the contacts and the recent call log. I would call 4-5 of the recent calls until I got someone to answer and ask them if they knew whose phone I was calling from. Or look in the contacts for obvious people like 'Mom' or 'Husband' or whatever and try the same.

There has been no activity on the phone for almost 2 months, email or calls. I don't think it is even still active on the network. I saw an email asking for someone to order a new phone as this persons phone was "no longer working" that was dated 2 days after the incident.

I looked in the contacts and saw a number for "me" and none of the contracts have the same surname from the email.

If it is not on the network anymore, why not call the number for "me" and ask them if they lost it? It should ring their replacement phone.
