Finding Free Classical Music

I'd like to find a legitimately free source for classical music. Well, honestly I'm only interested in piano pieces from the romantic period at the moment but I'm sure that's entirely too specific. Recordings don't need to be professional, even better if they're not. But they should be in an easily-downloaded mp3. While I appreciate online radio stations, webcasts, webinars on the topic of classical music, I'm really just looking for a free archive with a bunch of songs that I can throw on a playlist to mix and match.
Does anyone know of such a source?
    Thanks!

While borrowing disks from the library is great, and something that I frequently do, I don't really feel right about copying the music to my mp3 player.
I'll look at the others you suggested - thanks!

OK - I'm hooked on MusOpen. Very neat place.
