Does anyone go/uses Tumblr ?

 

never used it. dont think i ever will

dont think i know anyone that even use it. i thought it was something that only americans used..kind of like MySpace

As a boring old heterosexual white male, I think I'm 50-60 gender/orientation related adjectives short of the requirements to join. I mean, I sometimes wonder if I'm missing out by only being attracted to women, but I just don't see myself falling for the dragons and elves that are visible only to each individual Tumblr member.

 

When I found out my daughter was a member, and she wanted me to see some of her stuff, I signed up and looked around. Just wasn't my scene, man. I crap away enough time online when I should be getting stuff done. I think she's since quit too.

 

I create web content. I've gotten more exposure from Tumblr in the form of feedback than from Twitter and Facebook combined.
You may have noticed that entertainment both highbrow (NPR) and lessor entities (Showtime) use Tumblr to share content. I repost content after adding good search tags and submit all my original content, too.
I like the lack of noise there. I spend maybe 10 minutes a day on Tumblr keeping my content fresh.

I can think of one member here who should be using it for self-promotion. He has a Tumble blog but has never used it.

 

I would consider it if could spread awareness of my photography in a good 'non-spammy' way, but I suspect it might join my twitter account (I have done perhaps six posts on there in 2+ years) on the list of sites that I never touch. Still hoping to find some way to make a few legitimate dollars from my cameras and always open to decent options.

 

I use it all the time. In fact, I have two tumblr blogs. And while the site has a large population of adolescents (my daughter being one of them) there are just as many fabulous blogs populated by adults. Adults with interesting points of view who post a lot of fabulous content that you will never find in one place anywhere else on the internet. I don't care how good you think you are at google searches. So, I think people who generalize and say that there's nothing there but kids are TOTALLY missing the bus. There is no one at tumblr telling you what you can post and who you should be. And you can easily follow who you like and never see anything with fairies or unicorns. Unless you're into that sort of thing.

Tumblr, tho completely different, has in common the responses to it that snobby adults gave Facebook 5 years ago. Now many of those adults are on FB, usually 'for family'. Meanwhile, hip kids have moved on. I admit I held off on both FB and Tumblr but they give me access to good stuff. I understand not knowing how to use an application but narrow minds lose out--pretty much all the time.

It's just so enjoyable.
Out of all places online that I use--(with TFP excepted) 4 blogs -- 2 monetized that I built and maintain, FB, Twitter (2 accts.) and about 20 websites via newsfeed, plus random stuff that catches my interest, Tumblr is the most satisfying. There is a reason it is catching on with folks that have been deferring taking the plunge.
Edit: I forgot Instagram. It's fun but very not private.
