I've been giving them a listen lately and at first I figured they were a gimmick, playing off Yolandi's unique voice and the pretty unique culture found in South Africa. I like a lot of variations of electronic & hip-hop genres and their's is sort of a interesting blend.

But music style aside, I started to pay attention to the lyrics and I don't think they are gimmick group. They seem to actually have a lot of underlying messages in some of their songs. They even made a short movie, about 15 minutes long, titled "Umshini Wam" and it really seems to take shots at lazy musicians that spend more time worrying about their image and hangin out than they do the music. Then get mad when no one respects them.

What do you guys think? Am I reading in to it too much? Am I just confused by Yolandi's bowl-cut mullet and short-shorts? :)

(I can't post links yet, I'm not growed up enough, but a quick search on Youtube for Fatty Boom Boom, I Fink U Freeky, and FOK JULLE NAAIERS will introduce you to them if interested)

I just watched the video for Fatty Boom Boom and I really like both the song and the video, although I'm not sure exactly why. I'm going to have to listen to more of their stuff, I've only heard I Fink U Freeky in the past and didn't like it that much.

Been a fan for some time now.

I hear the live show is great. I don't guess they will be playing Singapore anytime soon.

I like them. If you start listening to a whole album, though, you discover that they're kind of hit or miss. I appreciate their whole gig, though. They came here not long ago and my daughter and I wanted to go, but the timing just wasn't right.

Heh - "Different" is one of the nicer first impressions. :)

I guess they played my area and were booed off stage. I don't know the venue or tour lineup, may have totally been the wrong crowd. But unfortunately, I don't think they'll be back to Seattle for a while.

I travel a lot for work so I'm hoping the stars align and I get to catch a show over seas.

The video for "I Fink U Freeky" is creepy as hell...

and if you haven't seen the video for "Evil Boy", it's another must watch! And then you'll have to go google the meaning behind the song after you go "what in the actual fuck did I just watch." :D

Cute Video. Not to my musical taste though. Could be if it wasn't so overproduced.
