Andy Rooney was a favorite of mine since I was a kid. My father watched 60 minutes and it was the most favorite segment of mine. Andy's book A Few Minutes With Andy Rooney was one of the first non-fiction books I bought and read on my own. It was a delight.

Somewhere I have a photo of a letter from Mr. Rooney to a friend of mine. It's pretty funny to read. I'll have to find it and post it.

    Thanks for the laughs, Andy.

It's such a shame he didn't get to enjoy his retirement.

    RIP, Mr. Rooney.

He lived a good long life and for all his crankiness, appeared to get a kick out of it.

If there's a Heaven, I imagine he'll have few things to say about how they're running the place. :)

Loved his segment of the show. He's missed.

I'm curious what the "minor surgery" was. At 92, any surgery is major surgery.

    RIP Andy

His last rant had me scrathing my head and thinking that he is "one real old and mighty cranky dude."

I hope he passed peacefully. At 92 he had a long good life from what I have read. Even though he bitched alot. And got paid for it. Now someone new will fill his abscence - just like when each of us passes.

It's called the Circle of Life.

  9. I was really upset when I heard this. I have always loved that man and was honored to have him speak at my graduation from college. His reports on 60 Minutes were my favorite.

    RIP Mr. Rooney.

CBC's Rex Murphy had some wonderful words about Andy Rooney upon his retirement.

As usual, Rex's words are eloquent and bear repeating.

For some people, and I suspect Andy Rooney was one of them, retirement is a much more onerous burden than work ever could be.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

I can remember loving his segment on 60 Minutes when I was a kid.
I probably went 20 years without seeing it then saw it a few years back.
It didn't do it for me any more.
I changed, and I'm sure Andy changed over time too.
