Bomb Girls Miniseries - a must see!

Howdy,
So a month or so ago I saw a trailer for this new miniseries in Canada called Bomb Girls. The title tells it all really: its about a Toronto-based factory in the 1940s that made bombs for the soldiers overseas, a factory with mostly women in it. First episode aired January 4th. I got the chance to watch it tonight, and it was just as awesome as I suspected.

If you get a chance, I high recommend watching the pilot episode. Especially if you like shows set in a certain time period, like me. Its not all light and fluffy like you might suspect either, there's violence, all kinds of aggression, and already there's been a horrific accident at the factory, one that made my stomach flip. Its fascinating, a real insight into the life one had to live at the time.
This site is a great look into the show as well. It has extra video clips of women who did work in bomb factories back then.
To be honest, I think I crave these kind of shows because I have no one older in my family to ask about history, about their lives.

Trailer looked interesting but we don't get Global in this neck of the woods.

 

The full episodes are on the website I linked in the original post...but I'm not sure if that is only in Canada. Someone else willing to give it a try? The second link is the one I'm talking about.

Well Thank You for recommending it, Settie ! I, too, suspected that I'd like it, and now I've watched episodes one and two and am hooked.
There is so much chemistry. There was an long running Australian series, called "Prisoner of Cell block H" ... I followed it for years, and as far as I am concerned, it is a classic. Bomb Girls seems to be doing something similar: setting up powerful and for my taste, believeable personalities. It caught me within that first ten minutes.
And Oh ... the costumes and music and atmosphere!
Enjoy episode three ... I'll probably be seeing it Tomorrow or Friday.

I haven't watched episode 3 yet tonight, ran into some car troubles that got me all riled up. So I might watch it tomorrow instead.

Well, only one more episode to go, and that's the end of the series. I'm sad about that. This is something I'd happily watch in perpetuity. everything about it feels right, to me. thank you so much for recommending it. I KNOW I would not have known of this otherwise.

I just finished watching episode 5. I'm a little behind on the show, was always busy when it was on tv. Episode 5 was fantastic, and the part with Vera and Archie made me cry - I thought their friendship/relationship was beautiful. I was also glad to see Gladys' fiance grow a backbone. The Italian Marco and Lorna the supervisor still piss me off though. Their whole affair disgusts me, completely selfish and stupid. I know her reasons, but it made me lose respect for her. I find her a very irritating character.
What are your feelings on this?
I can't wait to watch the finale episode, probably this weekend.
Edit: OH I HAVE GREAT NEWS! They WILL do a second season of 12 episodes! YAY!
