What do you like to eat for a birthday cake?

Because of when my birthday is (next week), I've always had a cake with raspberry or strawberry involved somehow. It isn't uncommon for me to forgo a regular cake in lieu of strawberry shortcake. I love baking cakes, and so I usually bake my own birthday cake.

Here is the recipe I am going to bake this year:

If you go to the link, and look at the pictures of the whole cake, I can just about guarantee mine won't be as pretty, as my piping skills aren't as good, but I am sure it will taste just as good :) As noted in the tools thread, I bought myself some goodies to help make this cake a little easier to construct.

Do you bake your own birthday cake, or do you just like eating it? Or perhaps you prefer birthday pie. Share!

For my bday cake I like Strawberry Shortcake, but nobody else in the family eats it, so I usually just get the little sponge cake things and make my own little ones and make a Devil's Food (my 2nd favorite) for everyone. I can't remember the last time someone made me a bday cake lol (store bought ones yes, but actually making me one? that would have to have been my mother when I still lived at home)

I love making birthday cakes, especially fondant covered ones. And cupcakes are my all time fave.

This is a club penguin one I made for my friends son. And I always use a jam or buttercream filling.

I love baking cakes but I don't like doing it in Singapore. Keeping the icing cool is always a problem. By the time I go to serve it, the icing has melted.

I make a lot more pies here.

I made my sister a white cake with raspberry filling (from fresh raspberries) with chocolate buttercream frosting, it was good but the filling was a little gooey. It also had an accompanying raspberry sauce to drizzle over it. I don't really like cake, except a mean carrot cake. I'd rather have pie. Or mashed potatoes.

My ideal choice would be New York Style cheescake with fresh juicy strawberries on top.
This year has been a bit "rough" to put it nicely and I was grateful for the store bought boston creme pie from a friend. Never had tried that before and it was not too bad. Should sample one of those freshly made someday and see how they taste that way.
