Politics Biden - How’s he doing?

Maybe a separate thread, but I saw Cornell West is running in 2024 for The Green Party. I can't imagine it'll make much difference, but he's spitting hot fire at both parties, including Biden and Obama.

I agree with a lot of his points, but governing in the pragmatic world doesn't let people do everything they want.

    *****

Interesting point of conjecture: if he could, would Biden go more or less progressive? My first thought was more conservative - I've always thought of him as nearly an old school Republican... But given where we are, I think he'd definitely be left of where he has to govern given the modern GQP and political landscape.

How did we get somewhere that reality and compassion and rational thought seems so incredibly progressive? Just fucking crazy.

I've been a huge fan of Dr. West for a long time.
That said, this video does a really good job of looking at some of the issues with his run.
Also if you don't follow the folks who are in this conversation I highly recommend it.
They are some of the best voices for the Black community on Twitter and YouTube.
On the positive side he does appear to be listening since he changed from the People's Party to The Green Party.

I've seen some content from the guy in the top left. I think I'll check them all out. The first 20 minutes were enjoyable - I'll watch the whole thing tomorrow.

How many times did I hear
"nigger" in the first 30 seconds?
    Way too many.
    And some blacks wonder
    why they're ignored, or not
    taken seriously, by most whites.

And I think anybody familiar with
    my comments on TFP know
    that I'm not excessively white.

They get to call themselves whatever they want to.
These are really smart, well educated people.
There's a lawyer, a social worker, and a college professor there.
They just aren't talking to us.
We got to listen in on a conversation between friends, unfiltered.

    Really smart, well educated people...
...who refer to themselves as niggers.

Yes, that is their right, absolutely.

And I have the right to think really smart, well educated blacks should see referring to themselves as niggers is a not very smart and is seriously damaging.

Their conversation is no longer private. The microphones and cameras indicate it was not private to begin with.

When I said they weren't talking to us I meant we weren't their audience.
They are talking to their Black audience who understand the context.
We are just along for the ride.
I understand how it looks to you.
    It's weird for me too.
But I watch a lot of Black content just to understand what is going on in their community.
I try never to judge, just learn as much as I can.
I do the same with Indigenous and LGBTQ+ content as well.

    I've spoken my piece.

I repeated the "N word" several times to emphasize how their discussion sounded to me. But, yes, I know I'm not allowed to use the "N word."

Hunter Biden will plead guilty in a deal that likely avoids time behind bars in a tax and gun case - WTOP News

Well, he pled guilty...and was let off on a lesser sentence.
This is often the case in tax cases and possession. If you don't resist, you pay $$$ ...interest and penalties.

This gets the rumor mill off Biden's back...the fast news cycle will say ho-hum, no matter what the GOP wants.
This will be all about T now. (as much as I dread seeing the narcistic SOB in the news)

But that's the 2 different styles, Biden likes it cool & quiet...T likes to scream everything to make it about him.

His son has got some issues, but his son did the deed and deal.
And if someone wants to compare mountains & molehills...trying for false equivalence...they've got no true ammo or target now.

It's like pouring water on the fire in comparison to dousing it with gasoline.

    Followup...
It seems that Biden's son didn't get a "sweetheart" deal.
Actually he was prosecuted and pled guilty to items that most wouldn't have been gone after for. (per experts)
Not that he didn't do anything wrong, it was just small beans and normally wouldn't have gone to court...
And he did pay the money, so there wasn't much to go after.
    The article explains...
The outcome focused attention on whether Hunter Biden got a better deal than the average person would get.

So again, mountain vs molehill.

I'll say here what I have said elsewhere:

I am often wrong about American political shit, but I predicted something like this a few months ago and I think Joey B, that dog-faced pony soldier, is calling the shot on this charge.

I think he's throwing them a bone they can't really gnaw, but cutting off their pretense to pursue the other bullshit. Gotta give them something...and it will play to the Trump / DeSantis base.

    But.

I think JB knows that they can't push too hard on taxes or guns... Hello cutting funding for thr IRS and mass shootings. Let Hunter, that SIL fucker, take some heat for this.

But it also forces Gym Jordan, syphilis personified, and Boss Hogg Cromer to actually pursue these other non-existent charges independently. They can't go for subpoena on taxes or the gun charges and fish for other stuff.

Their source is MIA or non-existent, and the Burisima shit was dead 3 years ago.

    ---

If JB did something bad, fucking get him. But if it's just a rich kid neptotistic scion doing scion things, then go pop Jared for his $2B payday

    ---

I also think that Joey knows that the public, generally, gives a lot of grace to Hunter because of his addiction and recovery. These charges will be linked into the period of his life when he was in active addiction and will be spun into a story of resilience.

When I first heard about Hunter & tax evasion my mind jumped to the Trump kids who parasitically cling to Daddy.

If we're talking tax evasion I must mention NPD Trump paying only $750.00 in federal taxes two years in a row.

Hunter just didn't have Trump level accountants to cover up his scams.

No, it's real...the story is expanding.
Frankly, I don't know what the big deal is.
    Unless it's large sellable amounts.

Probably used coke often to keep up with the pace at that pace. It's inhuman. You're on 24/7

Certainly not Biden, he's old school on drugs.

While I think Hunter Biden should be viewed separately from President Joe, we know that will never happen. It doesn't help that Pres Joe goes into protective, and stubborn, mode whenever anyone questions the actions of Hunter.*

IRS whistleblower in Hunter Biden case says he "felt handcuffed" during 5-year investigation - CBS News

I have no doubt the investigation was closely scrutinized and hampered...like it would be with any high profile persons.

What puzzles me is the IRS was, sort of, under the control of NPD Trump. Was it a matter of him not being able to weaponize the IRS the way he did the DOJ? Or was it a matter of him not throwing IRS stones given his questionable taxes?

To bring this back to Pres Joe, did he really keep out of this? If not, what was his involvement?

    * Understandable given his other son died at a relatively young age.

Not just his son but in 1972 his first wife and daughter died in a car accident.
I'd be hanging onto my last surviving child like a fucking demon after going through something like that.

My take on Hunter, at this point, is essentially the same:

Criticism of him is valid...as an entitled nepotistic asshole.

Do I think he may have been protected because someone high up didn't want to deal with the fallout unless it was a double dog slamdunk?

    Almost certainly.

Do I think he was a criminal mastermind?

    Unlikely.

Do I think Joe Biden is involved?

Also unlikely. He doesn't need to fuck with Hunter's breadcrumbs from where he's been. It's not impossible, but it seems unlikely.
