One of my first thoughts on that thread title is how awesome Ragtime music is but yes we are talking the 1990's here. This would be the counterpoint to the "worst songs" thread. By no coincidence I am listening to the 90's on 9 on XM. And we are not talking about lists written by asshats at Rolling Stone or elsewhere that seem to think music did not exist before 1968 or some other foolishness that always seems to affect this kind of thing.
    My initial contributions:
    Garbage - Stupid Girl
No Doubt - Don't Speak - This single would in the top five of the whole decade for me, and the whole album is damn good.

Will probably add some from the Contemporary Christian Music genre later but those are the top of my head.

I'm a Chris Cornel fan so Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden and Audioslave are where its at for me.... but my #1 90s song is:

  3. pan6467

    pan6467 a triangle in a circular world.

The 90's were like 2 separate decades for me early 90's there was the KINKS album Phobia that was very close to home every song taken from my life at the time. Then in the late 90's when I found recovery it was Sugar Ray and Smashmouth.

I can't just narrow it down to 1 song or even group as that decade was so much about change in my life (it was the decade of most of my 20's to very early 30's: 23-32 to be exact). It was a decade early on led by decadence and self gratification and ended in starting a new life. The last decade (so far) music has really been a major part of for me. Although lately that's changing as I am becoming a HUGE Alice Cooper fan.

    CinnamonGirl The Cheat is GROUNDED!

Oy. I could probably make my own top 100 list in about 10 minutes. Well, longer than that, because I'd fret over the rankings for hours :)

I'll definitely post some more later, but for now, this is one of my favorite songs of all time:

  7. Cypher

    Cypher New Member

    I hated the 90s.
but there was a few good songs.
The Cardigans - My favorite game
    (gran turismo 2, haha!)

  8. CinnamonGirl

    CinnamonGirl The Cheat is GROUNDED!

It seems like a lot of my favorite songs from the 90s, I didn't really discover until well after the 90s were over. Like "Joey," by Concrete Blonde, "Ball and Chain," by Social Distortion, or "Sometimes Always," by the Jesus and Mary Chain.

This one, though, was put on a mix tape made especially for me (man, I miss making mix tapes), and I fell in love the instant I heard it. It's definitely part of the soundtrack of my sophomore/junior years of high school.

    Jetée Getting titled

    Maybe there's something here? (* -)

As much as I might like to, and believe me, I have some great albums and acts that were most relevant in the 90s decade, (a fair amount, I'll admit, I've discovered well after it was initially released) I can only allow myself to participate in this adventure into sound memories by restricting myself to: bands/artists that I actually know of, and remembering, almost exactly, that I heard that diddy playing on the radio/television a thousand times over when I was younger.

    - - -

The groundwork laid, (for myself, at least) I'll submit these to the collective:

    Live - Lightning Crashes (* -) ... 1995
Toni Braxton - Unbreak My Heart (live, I think) ... 1996
Blind Melon - No Rain (looks like skreemr morphed into something else) ...1992
Nas - The World is Yours ... 1994
    Polaris - Hey Sandy [* -] ... 1993

Additionally, I've had this article in my notes for what seems like the inception, so I'll add in the script as well, and pray you take a glance at it, perhaps to get me to thinking I actually saved the link for some viable reason other than I might just like to collect things - all things.

    - - - - -

In response to Speed_Gibson: No Doubt's Don't Speak would also be in my shortlist of top songs of the 90s, not because I thought it was an earth-shaker, though I do really like the song; it has more to do with the vivid memories associated with it. Most of the tracks I compiled, and am still racking my brain over, I needed an external impetus to help me recall the songs. But, if I fell asleep to the song nightly, or always heard it on the drive to school every morning, or watched it on the tube when I got home in the afternoon to my bowl of roach-infested cereal, (it's a wonder I still like it at all now that this memory comes back to haunt me) then it's not whether or not the song is great or not, but it made an indelible impression on me through repeated exposures, for the better (I hope).

this is from 1990 which I would call the last year of the 1980's but am willing to bend for this post -

Going to my high school days :

both fantastic albums in my opinion
Another of their many songs I love to listen to is "Take Me in" from the 1989 album Petra Praise but that is just out of the range of this thread.
