I took my bed apart yesterday. It this big monstrosity the size of Utah. Its made of square metal rods allovertheplace, remarkably simple. After it was undone and the mattress on the floor, I realized that much of the bulk was the frame and my bed doesnt seem as big anymore. I think I like it more now and might not use the frame in my new place, but maaaaaan that frame is so unique Im not sure I want to part with it.

In addition to alloftheabove, there was a mattress trade-off yesterday that involved 4 different households and 5 beds in a matter of 3 or so hours, what with everyone wanting a different size.
We started talking about beds and sleeping arrangements after someone commented on a photo theyd seen of a bed sunken even with the floor and I wondered about other arrangements, bed linens, and all sort of sleepytime stuff.

Where do you usually sleep or rest? Do you use a frame? Are you mattressed or futond, or something else? Do you like it hard or soft? Does size matter? What about depth, or height?

CinnamonGirl and were sleeping in a full sized bed with one dog, it was not fun. We finally dropped the money and bought a king sized bed. Now with twice the room, we can fit 2 dogs on the bed and still get the same amount of room as we did with the Full.

We had completely different views of how the bed should feel. Cinn wants to sleep on a mattress that feels like the hardwood floor surrounding it. I am a side sleeper, so I want a ultra soft bed. I think we argued about this more than we did anything else we have bought together.

We don't have a frame for it, but it came with a box spring.

Fortunately my wife and I agree that we both want an extra firm mattress.

We've had a queen size bed for most of our marriage, but after we got Stanley we upgraded to a king. He doesn't sleep with us anymore, but now there is room for him to hang out while we watch TV if we want to let him.

This is our bed (queen size version in the store before we bought it):

I sleep on a horrible, horrible piece of shit that I have been meaning to replace for a while. By the end of next month I will be done saving for my memory foam mattress.

    Can't wait.

My wife and I combined weigh about 270 pounds.
    I'm only 5 foot 6 inches and she's 4 inches shorter.
So needless to say it's absurd for us to have a king sized bed. So why do we?

I loved the largess of my bed when the big dog would sleepover with his dog. It accomodated us all. Even so, if you looked closely you might still see us all hoarded up against one side or one of us might have woken you with, "Sam! Move! Move over!" Once, we had 3 dogs in the bed - 1 small, 1 medium, and 1 giganto. Whoa. It was a party.

Even though I sleep alone these days, the lux space may still matter. Well see.

We have a queen Beautyrest. I will probably never buy another kind of mattress, but we'll see. My husband is a highly restless sleeper. When we're not sleeping on a Beautyrest, I can tell unless it has some kind of super pillowtop. Without the pocketed coils, the mattress is too wibbly.

Ideally, we'd have a bed with one soft pillowtop side for me, and one hard as a rock side for my husband.

  8. Slept on a futon (or mattresses on the floor) for most of my life.

In the past two years I had a really nice, super effin' comfy king-sided bed that I could sleep laterally in. that was great.

Moved into an apartment, moved to a full-size lofted bed with an air mattress. I'm only here for a year, so I don't really care about forking out the cash for a fancy new mattress.
And I'm not about to buy a used mattress from a town that houses a drinking university with a science problem.

My bed is made out of a 100+ year old barn.

I'm a side sleeper and I like a firm mattress.

The Tempurpedic is my supportive mistress.

If you've never slept on one, you must try it.

I like rock hard beds. I got a new mattress for my birthday last year (because I apparently only like practical presents), and it's a magical extra firm wonder. I am so happy. Came with a boxspring, use a basic metal stand.

Simple Ikea Queen...with a space foam top.

Want to get a new one...perhaps a California King. (not too soft, probably semi-firm with a new foam topping)
I'm not sure what kind of frame yet.

We were sleeping on an OOOOOOLD Queen matress that my husband had had for 15 years. When we moved in Nov 2012, we saved up and bought a King size Super Firm Pillowtop. We had had the King frame for about 5 years as a gift from his family, but never any room to put the bed. I love that it is a mission style Amish frame, though it definitely raises the bed up quite a bit. I literally have to "climb into bed".

I need a new bed. The ikea frame I've had for the past 8 years is just not doing it for me. The mattress is okay but not great.

This summer... a whole new level of sleeping will be achieved.

The most comfortable bed I've ever slept on was an "extra-firm," rock hard mattress, with a memory foam top. I forget the firmness Lordeden and I went with, but I know he would've liked something way softer, and I would've liked something way firmer. I honestly debated doing the separate beds thing for a while.

I like to wrap up in lots of blankets. Right now, I've got a sheet and a comforter. In the winter, I add another comfy & warm blanket in between. I usually get hot while I'm sleeping, and kick all of them off, though.

Ooooh, and pillows. I like lots of pillows. I sleep on three...well, two, because the third one is where Benjen likes to sleep, above my head. I also have a body pillow that I snuggle around. When I was living at home, I had something like eight pillows.

We don't have a frame, as Eden said, but I want to get either a mission-style frame like amonkie mentioned, or one of those Italian platform frames. Our bedroom isn't very big, though, so we'll probably wait to buy a frame.

    Extra firm mattress.
    Platform bed.
Eight full sized pillows on the bed.
    Stanley.

It looks like if my wife ever runs off my plan is to steal CinnamonGirl from Lordeden.

I have a firm Tempurpedic with split box spring and platform bed. I LOVE it. The only problem I've had is finding the right pillows for my picky neck - my tempurpedic pillows became far too soft after just a few years, and the new memory foam ones I have are a lot firmer, but just a *tiny* bit too small.

One thing that has made a huge difference for me is having nice sheets. I have 800 thread count sheets now, and sleeping on my boyfriend's cheaper set tends to feel itchy at times. I wash my sheets every week, largely because I just *love* the fresh sheets sensation so damn much.

I have a Beauty Rest I purchased at Sears when I first arrived in Mexico. I drove my Ford -150 down and had to decide what would fit, what could be reasonably transported in a standard sized truck. I bought a slightly firmer mattress then I prefer but I'd packed a memory foam mattress pad I'd purchased at Costco several years before moving. It's basically what had in the US so I figured it would be fine. As far as firmness goes it is fine. Problem is beds here are not the same size as beds in the US. Turns out they're 4in. shorter. So I've have 2 inches hanging over both ends and since I'm right at 6' my feet hang off the end.

And I whole heartedly agree with Pony... sheets make the bed. Most sheets sold here locally are absolute crap. I've taken to buying a new set of sheets nearly every trip. I buy them on-line and have them shipped ot a friends house then pick them up when I'm up north. The hard water caused by the almost entirely limestone geography here is really hard on anything you wash. So I go through a ton of t-shirts, sheets etc.. When I lived on the beach in Progreso I washed my sheets twice a week, sand just got everywhere. That's one of many reasons I left the beach. Now I'm living in Merida and I wash once a week or maybe five or six times a month. Time between washings completely depends on what's been the beds main purpose. I'm usually happier if they need cleaned more often but crisp clean sheets make for a great nights sleep for me. I also sleep sound after giving them a really good work out.

  18. I have an Ikea bed that has been all over the country with me It's easy to take a part...so that's nice. I actually really like the mattress. It's firm, yet soft.

My boyfriend's bed is amazing. I have NO idea what it is, but I think it's a foam mattress or whatever. LOVE it. The bed might be the only reason why I am with him.

The ex and I bought a Queen-sized memory foam mattress from Costco a few years back that came folded in a box (weird but neat—was fun to watch it expand over a few hours after we brought it home). I love it and wisely kept it when she moved out.

It's accompanied by five luxuriously dense memory foam pillows (though I usually sleep on only one of them) and usually dressed with jersey knit Modal bed sheets. It currently sits on a platform frame from L.L. Bean, but I would love to have a captain's bed someday.
