Just curious if anyone else on here follow NASCAR? I am a diehard NASCAR fan. I have watched it since I was a little kid. I think the sport has changed alot in the last 10 years or so. Some for the good and some for the bad. I am just tired of jimmie johnson winning. I was glad he didn't win the championship last year.

  2. Not a die hard fan, Ralphie. But I will watch some races. Watched the Bud Shoot Out. Looking forward to the Daytona 500. I'm afraid we're going to see a couple of big ones based on the Shoot Out.

I used to watch NASCAR all the time. I was a big Alan Kulwicki fan...till he died.

Then I started following Davey Allison...till he died.

I stopped watching for years out of concern for the rest of their lives.

I still watch a race once in awhile, but I much prefer road racing over ovals. I just wish there was better coverage for auto racing in general on cable. There is only so much satisfaction I can get from Forza 4.

  4. I like the big tracks, the little tracks are boring. I'm glad JJ didn't win again last year.

I agree, with everybody bunched up again. I hope they learned not to push in the corners and ob the left rear. But, we'll see. I hope its a good race.

i like nascar for more of the engineering that goes into it and the teamwork that stretches beyond just the driver

That was a vicious hit Danica took today. Glad she was ok.

Will be glad when the 500 starts. The racing seems better so far this year to me. I really enjoyed the truck race and the nationwide race
I hope todays is just as exciting.

I don't know if I'll be able to watch the 500 tomorrow, but it was fun watching the old highlights from past races.

The clip showing Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison kung-fu racing, then fighting, on and off the track was hilarious, *then* Richard Petty coming in behind them for the win, when he would've been third, was awesome.
Then the clip when Dale, Sr. finally won the 500 after not winning it for 19 years, and every one of the pit crew members from every team in Pit Row lined up to shake his hand or high-five him as he slowly drove by, was very touching and bittersweet at the same time, now that we know what happened afterward.

  10. Yeah the old clips were great. It will be a great race.

So how did Danica do? I know she was way out of it. Was curious if it was her or some other factor.

  12. She got caught up in the first crash. Extensive damage to her rear end.

I think I will leave it at that. :D

I didn't really grow up a fan, but I went through a stage 5-7 years ago where I watched nearly every race. Now I'm an extremely casual fan. I'll watch a race, or the last 50 laps of a race, if there isn't much else on. I went to the race in Chicago last year because I got a free ticket (due to the rain delay), and I've been to maybe half a dozen or 8 races total. I like Jr, but fully admit most of his fans think he's better than he really is. Stewart is probably my second favorite. I used to hate Gordon and Johnson, but I've grown to respect them, and even like them a touch. I love going to races and listening in to the radio frequencies of the drivers, one of the cooler features of Nascar is how often you can interact with the drivers.

    I just don't get NASCAR.
    I like cars.
    I like to drive fast.
    But NASCAR?
    I'd sooner watch paint dry.
    Or corn grow.
    Or even NBA basketball.
