I know Remixer is entertained by him. :D

I think he is freaking hilarious. He also grew up pretty close to me and is coming to do an appearance locally, which I referenced in PA a few weeks ago. Part of the appearance is a chance to get a book signed by him and to get to meet him. So at the very least I'll get to meet him briefly and get a copy of his new book, signed by him.

However, I've also been emailing back and forth with his sister and she is going to try to get him to come to my house for a cookout the day after. :D Now, I think that is a massive long shot, but she says she has talked with him about it and sent him some pics from my last cookout to try to entice him. I'm not counting on anything coming of that, but I figured it would be worth asking.

    I love this guy. :D

Rarefied masculinity in all its glory.

(Also: I was horribly weirded out by the episode where he shaved his moustache.)

I listened to an interview he did on Nerdist, and he really is the very definition of manly manliness in a man. The whole renaissance man vibe, his intense love of woodworking, the 'stache... it's all almost too much to handle. He's also insanely nice.

That Ron Swanson Turkey Burger looks a bit small, might have to order two of them.

I just got done talking to Nick's sister.

It looks like I am catering food for Nick, his family, and those setting up for the event tomorrow. :D

There is over five pounds of bacon in there, almost twenty pounds overall.

GeneticShift Show me your everything is okay face.

I'm so upset I didn't know about this earlier. I would have sent you my copy of his book and convinced you to bug him to sign it for me.

I would be in your debt. I know that's dangerous, but that's how much I love Nick Offerman.

Yes, the "Green Room" was 3rd grade classroom, since this was at an elementary school. It was the room directly across from the side door to the gym.

He got to the building only about 20 minutes before the show was to start. He did a quick sound check and said hello to a bunch of his family (most of whom had already been in and out of the room I was in and I had met). His brother (super nice guy) had been eating some of the candied bacon in front of him, so he came in to get some. As he walked in I said "can I interest you in a piece of candied bacon?" He was very polite and introduced himself, we shook hands, and he went on and on about how the room just smelled so great from all the meat. He picked over the ribs and pulled pork, then grabbed a bunch of the candied bacon. He was loving it. As some of his family came in and out he was saying his hellos, so I tried not to intrude and be all in his face. A little while later it was just he, I, and I think one of his nieces in the room and I asked him if I could trouble him for the pic I posted above. He was very gracious and polite to everyone the entire time. As he was stretching a bit and preparing for the show there were only 1-2 of us in the room, so I excused myself to grab my seat before the show started. I do wish I had asked him for a quick pic together before I did that, but I didn't. Oh well.

His father (a long time teacher in the small town they are from, so many know him or had him as a teacher) introduced him and he came out and did about an hour of storytelling (mostly from his book) and bits of songs he has written. It was a good show. Afterwards there was the book signing. We had prepurchased our books, so we had an assigned spot in line just past #100. A few days before I had talked to his sister and she said they expected about 200 signed books. So I'm thinking that I'll get my book signed, duck back in the "green room" to clean up the food, and kill an hour waiting to get to talk to him again and maybe get a picture (they announced no posed pics during the signing, it would slow the line down too much) after the book signing was over. However, they ended up selling several hundred books at the door. There were over 700 people there, and I'd guess over half had a book. It took us almost 90 minutes after the show was over to get our books signed, so there was no way I was waiting another 2-3 hours (at least) for the chance to get a pic or a few more seconds of his time.

As we get to the book line I had my wife go first and she said that her husband was the one who made the BBQ. He said "Borla, yes that was awesome. I got to meet him before the show." I was a little impressed he remembered my name since we only talked a few minutes and he had 100 other things going on. So he thanked me profusely as he signed my book, apologized that he didn't get to spend more time with me, and made a joke about how long he'd be there tonight. All in all it was a lot of fun, and now I have a semi-cool story to tell.

I was pleasantly impressed with how personable he was, how thankful he was to everyone (and to me for the BBQ and for his being unable to give me more time), and how nice his entire family was. He had aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, parents, nieces, and nephews there. They all came and introduced themselves to me and thanked me for the spread. Every time a volunteer or another family member came in, they introduced me and raved about the food (especially the candied bacon, big hit there). They were a very respectful and polite family in general, but had great humor. It was a fun time.

Funny you mention that. I've worked from home the last couple of days due to the computer issues I was having. So I haven't shaved in several days before today. I jumped in the shower just before packing up the food, and I almost didn't shave just for the point of it. :p But I figured that would make me a poser since I'm usually clean shaven, so I shaved.

His face is disapproving of how little bacon was used to create this.
