I was just wondering if anyone here plays or has played EVE Online.

Great game if you're into scifi

I tried a few years ago. After spending a couple days messing around and thinking I was set up pretty decent with a nice ship I ventured out and about and got blown up in like 4 seconds, reverting me back to having nothing. That was enough for me. :p

I've played off and on for a few years. I tend to play for a few months, then quit for a few months. Consequently, none of my characters have actually gone too far. I have made it into a battleship and another character in a mid grade mining barge (I think).

I enjoy it for a time, but I'm mostly a solo player. Eventually the mining and ratting gets boring, and I tire of repeating the six different missions over and over again. I think this time I'm out of it for good. Not enough time to justify paying a sub for a game anyway right now.

I actually downloaded a game right now called Evechron Mercenary. Same open "sandbox" feel, but first person from the cockpit views and controls more like a traditional flight sim. Demo is only good for 90 minutes and I think I only have 50 minutes left.

EVE is definitely not the best game for a solo player

Haha, precisely why I tend to leave and come back to it so often.

I totally missed this thread. I've played EVE for about two years now. I'm a member of TEST, apparently the alliance which lost more ships in the last quarter than an other alliance. We're terrible and proud of it. I'm mostly winning EVE these days by not logging in and training capital skills. I can sit in a fit Revelation now, and am currently working on AWU 5. After that comes the dreaded jump drive navigation skills. At least soon I'll be able to shoot rainbow lasers like an absolute champion!

The part of EVE I like the most are the absolutely massive battles well beyond the scale of what any other game can provide. There's nothing like being on the field with literally THOUSANDS of dollars with of ships, laser beams and missiles flying everywhere, hundreds (or even thousands) of pilots all moving together. It's pretty sweet.

Are you guys that do or have played nullsec, WH, lowsec or highsec players? What do you like to get up to?

I played for the first 6 months or so after release. I was pretty active with Hirr but got out of the game because it ate up too much time. I remember logging in at E3 to move my training along.

I never stuck around long enough to get into WH, low sec, or null sec. Being the soloist I am, I usually got jumped in low sec areas, so I learned to stay away. I usually stuck to missions or mining. Obviously, those get boring after a while, as there's only a few missions that get repeated, and mining is well...staring at rocks for hours on end. I joined a corp for a while, but it was mostly an industrial outfit so we basically mined and built stuff. I guess they ended up getting hooked up with an alliance and were at one point making a move into low sec areas, but I left before then. I liked the people in my corp, but with school and work, I quickly lost interest.

Now days, I stick to F2P MMO's; every once in a while I fire up Guild Wars, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Lord of the Rings Online, Everquest II. I'm actually anxiously awaiting GW2.
