The linked articles are worth reading.

I've heard stories about Williston that are nearly unbelievable.

I know fracking is controversial, sure hope the issues from the past have been resolved as I like where this is headed. I like it a lot!

Fracking is indeed controversial... especially here in Eastern Canada. We have a strong green lobby which is making it difficult to get a calm objective debate on the subject going. I don't know enough about the process myself to form an opinion yet but I'm working on it. I don't like reading explanations of the technology, I want to see the actual studies, and the only ones I've been able to find easily have been industry-sponsored. While that's normal (they do most of the studying, for obvious reasons), I like to see independent or anti-industry-sponsored ones as well.

Generally, I'm of the opinion that it's necessary to prove harm in most instances, not simply posit it. However, in this case, IF it causes harm, the implications are too far-reaching to wait until it's shown. Plus, I have a cottage that relies on a well that provides excellent potable water in an area where high levels of sulphur, iron, and antimony are common (it's deeper than most, with more casing). Frack-testing is going on not terribly far away and I certainly don't want to lose that water quality, so I'm coming down on the overly-cautious, prove-it's-harmless side of the argument right now.

And I want to see the raw data myself... I can draw my own conclusions, thank you.
