in the first picture, it is interesting to see all of the commercial water bottles scattered about. And I hate to say it, but does that look like a person's leg sticking out from under the front of the turret?

now.. i'm not familar with Abrams tanks, but that cable dangling above the driver's seat and hanging off the headlights look like a slave cable used for trying to restart the vehicle?

Doesn't look like the vehicle was taken out in action. Might have been attacked while it was under tow or being repaired.

Water bottles might have come from the interior of the vehicle. Good thing about tracks is that you can carry all sorts of goodies in them.

The cable is not a slave cable. It looks to me like the turret was removed, not blown off. Note that it is detached from the basket, and there is no fire damage to the inside of the (upper) turret, unlike the lower. There is also no scorching around the collar, nor have the blow out panels been damaged. An explosion large enough to throw the turret would surely have cooked off the ready ammo, causing an internal explosion.

It looks to me like the mine damage is to the front right side, centered on the first roadwheel.

My guess is that it caused a mobility kill (and possible crew kill as well), but that the damage to the turret was due to some other event. If you notice the track marks from the M-88 (in the first photo) it has been up to the turret at some point. They could be salvaging the 120mm gun off of the vehicle.

i found this in a different forums....

someone said that the m1a1's turret is held on by mainly gravity..(i personally find that hard to believe)...but they stated that the M1A1 was blown upside down like a turtle when they recovered it and tried to flip it back up right....the turret came off......

but i havent seen an article on this
