Antique Arsenal!

Got a neat piece of history laying around somewhere? Into swords or other recreations? Well this is what this thread is about. Tell everyone a little about your collection, or something you have you just think is interesting.

I myself have an authentic Nazi Bayonet, at least I think it's a bayonet. Engraved is some text and the year "1939" on the side of the blade. The story behind how I came into possession of it is rather interesting to say the least, even if the details are sketchy. I'm always interested when I pick it up and have a look. My dad-o's uncle was the one to find it, he was at Normandy I believe, succeeding to live there, he continued to fight across Europe. Eventually, he winded up at the battle of the buldge where he came across the thing. Picked it up for whatever reason and went on his way. He gave the bayonet to my grandfather, who passed it down to his son, who passed it down to me.

I have a ceremonial sword that was used by my Great great grandfather when he was the Mayor of Bristol in the 1920s. I recently had that one mounted.

I have three items that I received from my Great Aunt's friend. The first is a British officer's sword dating approximately from the reign of George V (1911-1936), second is a Gurkha kukri and the third is a British commando knife. The three items belonged to the man's uncle, a fellow by the name of Leonard Morris. If I am ever able to find out the details of his service record I may be able to have a better idea of exactly when and how he got the kukri.

I've got an Enfield rifle that was standard issue for the British during WWII. It's even got markings on it to indicate that it was repaired in the field.

Wonder how many Nazis met their maker as a result of it!

Well, I sold my Garand to a good friend of mine. He was always and forever drooling over it and I needed the money. I gave him a good deal as a sort of an early graduation present. What better present for a guy getting a history degree with a specialisation in military history? I still need to give him the bayonet that goes with it.

Nothing lse I have is historical in any sense, though I do have some nice repros.

I also have an M1 Garande (note the use of the full name.....means it was built to Garands specs...not the militaries interpretaion of them)

Friend of mine has a Japanese ww2 rifle..pretty cool.

this is my great grandpa's bonker. he lived in winsolw, arizona, way back in the day. the story goes that there was a drunk who was giving people a hard time as they walked here and there, so my great grandpa made this bonker on a lathe and carried it with him. one application of the bonker and the drunk never bothered him again. simple, yet effective.

I want a bonker...

phredgreen 08-01-2003 05:58 PM

so get your ass to a lathe and make one.

debaser 08-01-2003 06:18 PM

That is the first time I have ever been told to "get my ass to a lathe".

Usually I'm told to get my ass away from it...

I have a head-hunters knife from Indonesia...its really old, but hasn't been used to cut a head (the ones that are used have a hole drilled in them...more depending how many were killed with it).

My dad has quite a few antique muzzleloaders. I have no real interest in guns, but I've always enjoyed these.

Gotta get me a Bonker. No lathes anywhere near my ass however.
