Depends? What am I killing?
Squirrels or small game: My 1950-s vintage Savage .22/.410 drilling. Cheap, versatile, and dead accurate. Large game: FN-FAL in .308, throwing 168-grain Game Kings. Upland birds: .410 SxS hammer-double. Light, super-fast, and easy to handle in the thick stuff. Heavy birds: Mossberg 500 12-bore, after I fit the longer barrel. Bad Guys, CQB: Same Mossberg, with short barrel and sidesaddle. Bad Guys, General: FN-FAL in .308, with 3-9x variable optic. FMJ ball for standard and 168-grain Match Kings for long-range work. Bad Guys, Extreme Close Range: Para-Ordinance double-stack 1911. Mad Guys, Extreme Long Range: Someone else, who has the money to afford this kind of thing! |

My heart is still partial to my M-16 USMC issue and the colt 1911 .45
|
CZ-97B, 45 caliber twin to the Sig 210. Not really, but I dig the full length slide rails. The 97B is what the 1911 should have been. Unfortunately the ergos are not for everyone. I am picking up a minty one in october which is a challenge in Taxachusetts as they are not for sale new.
If I had to pick somethign I had it would be my Sig Sauer 226 9MM. |
well, if we're just picking, gotta go with the desert eagle .50 or the F-N 57
|
m2................ma duece
|
I'm going to have to split it between the PSG and the M82A1. I wouldn't want to pick one over the other, and I want one of each.

If I won the lottery, the following would be added to my collection immediately:

When it comes to poking small precisely lethal holes, I must agree. Well-chosen, sir! |

Of course, I think the best weapon is a mother. I mean, you point a mad mama in someone's direction and LOOK out. That's trouble! Why else would the phrase, "Don't make me tell yo mama" impart such fear in so many people. |
There is only one weapon. Your mind. Everything else is just a tool.
That said, I am rather partial to my S&W M686. |
I love my Sig Sauer 226.
|
AK-47 is the best!

minigun! All you ever need....

like the other guy said... my favourite weapon would be the one best suited to do the job in hand.
In my situation... the only weapon I prolly will need is to defend my home if someone wants to break in. I live in a country where there is not wholesale gun ownership, so I wouldnt need a gun to defend myself... I'd prolly go with a nicely weighted 7 iron. If anyone busts into my flat, a couple of nice swings and they'd be sorry for it. I wouldnt want to kill or main someone... but in the cause of defence I'd like to be able to carry enough damage to take someone out of the game. So, a nicely weight short iron would do me, as long as you dont swing at the vital area's it shouldnt be fatal, but it would do a job. But if I wa facing a polar bear or something... I'd want a big gun obviously... |
The jian.
Basically a light, flexible, double edged strait sword. |
... pull my finger ...
|
I agree with many of the posts here: The human mind is the best weapon, as well as in the case of specific situations call for different weapons.
For long range, I loved my M82A1 Light 50. For medium range, M249 SAW. For combat action, Colt M16A3 with M203 grenade launcher. For short, home defense, I LOVE my Ruger P89 (9mm pistol). For short, close combat, the M1014 Joint Service Shotgun. |
The hubby's Big Bertha golf club.
|
my Glock 26.
I like the sights, comfortable to shoot, not a whole lot of kick. sweetpea |
Sweetpea,
Try wrapping your paw around a sub-compact Springfield XD. They're superb guns, striker-fired just like the Glock, with extra safety features ( but no manual ) and they're -much- more comfortable, IMO. The Glock is rock-solid reliable, though, and I don't know much about the XD yet; it's a fairly new platform compared to the Glock, after all. |
Quote:
My Glock 23 is the most dependable item in my arsenal! I have some Kimber 1911s, a couple of S&W 1911s, HK USP-C and others but my Glock is the most practical item I have. Recently I got a Surefire x200B light attachment for it. Terrific light and very little bulk. |
I was a bit drunk when I was going on about hitting people with a 7 iron.
If i was sober I would have said a butterfly knife. It's just this thing I have. Next best would be a chrome .44 and a metal bat. In a tough corner... you might have to make do with hurling your car keys into someone's face from point blank... or if youre lucky a claw hammer.... Quote:
from my own (perhaps limited) experience. best home defence = a fat man wearing nothing but boxer shorts running screaming out the front door with a cricket bat. ;) (this only happened one time) |
Definetly have to be AR-15 for rifle/ 870 remington express for shotgun and my trusty Glock .22 w/ Nights sights for pistol
|
My CQB rifle is basically a Colt AR with a few modifications: I swapped out the upper receiver for an LMT monolith - 16" barrel. The trigger is Compass Lake 2-stage. I have an Aimpoint Comp M3 sight on a LaRue mount with Troy BUIS. The stock is Magpul CTR and the grip is Magpul MAID with modified trigger guard. On the front end there's a Surefire M900A vertical foregrip with a LaRue QD mount mod. Finally it's got a Specter 3-Point sling in GG&G adapters.
here's a pic I took today (I processed the photo a bit for dramatic effect). My front BUIS is being sent to me. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...bough/cqb2.jpg My next project is going to be another AR built from a Mega stripped lower - this time I'm using a POF gas piston upper (it just arrived after waiting 4 months). It's going to have the RRA 2-Stage trigger. Like the other rifle it'll have a Magpul MAID with the modified trigger guard, but the stock will be the ACE USSOCOM stock. The optics will be EoTech 553 (just came in) and on the front I'm trying to get a LaRue Battlelight with a Troy vertical grip ... but that part might change. The funny thing is ... If you met me you probably wouldn't guess I might be a "gun-nut." I'm an articulate, responsible, nice guy who doesn't project neuroses - I'm great with kids and I love people. As a physician I believe I'm making the world a better place every day - and I love my job. I like guns because when I was a kid a cop and his partner befriended me and taught me a lot about personal responsibility by teaching me the proper handling and maintenance of firearms. I still have cop friends to this day and take courses in small arms tactics ... just to keep me well rounded. But my first line of defense is still my border collie, Albert. I love him to pieces! http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...h/albert01.jpg |

Springfield XD9, (imo) best polymer pistol on the market. Excellent reliability, high capacity, accurate, and ergonomics superior to the Glock in most shooters hands (weird austrian grip angle). Plus 15+1 doublestack capacity without needing lumberjack hands to grip it comfortably.

I'll take my Glock 23 (with 15+1 of .40S&W) any day of the week. The Glock has a lower bore axis so the muzzle flips less than the XD when shooting. I must say the XD has a good reputation in the field so far, but the Glock has been around long enough to establish a solid track record of quality and reliability ... They're both excellent guns. |
I don't mind Glocks, but having no safety feels strange, and that little thing on the trigger bugs me to no end (makes my finger hurt after one or two mags).
Then again, I'm not a huge handgun fan; I'd prefer my Mossy 500 at those ranges, and an AR-15 or FN-FAL beyond that. If that won't do, it's probably not my business to engage anyhow and I'll just be movin' on.:) |
Daily Carry: Glock 22 or 36
Long Range: Savage 10FP-LE2A And various other weapons for other situations... |
My fave at the moment is my Para-Ordnance P18, but I'll never give my 686 away.

1911 1911 1911. Made by a company that actually understands the dimensions of the design. That means the slidestop hole is the correct distance from the VIS and the breech face is 89 degrees 8 minutes. I challenge anyone to find that from the crap company's like S&W, Kimber, and Para Ordnance put out. Just because a gun runs doesn't mean it runs right.

Shadow. But if he doesn't eat 'em, my .38 super.

My staff. It's about 6'4" long, 1 1/2" diameter. Not sure what kind of wood it is, but it's dense as hell.
In second is an old, beat-to-hell Louisville Slugger that I got at a pawn shop for $4. |

Well, I don't own any guns, or have much experience with them.
Although TBH, I like my folding knife for everyday use. I bought it in a store in France. It's a Fox Invader 2. Does anyone know if this is a good knife? http://www.couteaux-center.com/bouti...duits/5853.jpg I also have a small Opinel, but it's more of a sentimental value kind of thing. |

Not as well as I should, as evidenced by the eight stiches I had to have in my left index finger.

ouch.

Okay. I think I've come up with my favourite weapon. I know I've already posted my witty answer of a pen, but that isn't a weapon in the literal sense of the word.
I've always been partial to the good ol' fashioned trebuchet. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi.../Trebuchet.jpg Trebuchet at Château des Baux, France. If they don't kick ass, nothing does. Come on, it's a giant slingshot! |

Im a sucker for the fancy and high tech things. So when it comes down to a good weapon something for home defense or just plain old outright post apocoliptic survival. I would have to say a nice Fancy high tech flint lock blunderbuss. A nice long one not just a pistol. With the widest muzzle i can get. Hopefully with some nice engraving on it just so it looks fancy.
|
The katana is probably the best hand held blade weapon ever made.
A few scientists somewhere agree. |
I'm too afraid of pistols. Too complicated with all that "always one in the barrel" stuff. I need to know the gun inside-out. So, all I have is a double-action Airweight Smith and Wesson .38 revolver.

TDP-1 (Tactical Defense Pen): This pen was designed with the military and law enforcement communities in mind. One end is pointed, which could be used as a very effective defense tool while the other end is blunt and could be used as a control device. The aircraft grade aluminum body with type 3 anodizing give this pen a very tough and reliable construction. Not only is this pen designed to be used as a defense tool and writing instrument but it also has a very attractive appearance and can also be used as a PDA stylus or pen. Allen Elishewitz who is better known as a world-class knifemaker and designer, has spent most of his life practicing martial arts and trained in several countries. This background enabled him to design the proper tactical defense pen for these extreme situations. http://store.mil-tac.com/ProductImag...1_group_lg.jpg |
Id have to go with the classic B.A.R.

Ohio Ordnance is making those in semi-auto trim.... quite spendy, and HEAVY, but goddamn nothing says I mean bussiness like a BAR |
Yeah. The BAR doesn't fall under the AWB since it doesn't have many "evil" features. It costs about $3000 to have one - Imagine spitting 30-06 downrange with that sucker!
|
I've always wanted to learn to wield a pair of these:
http://www.gungfu.com/pics_info_page..._twin_hook.jpg |
Quote:
I'd really like to grab one of those up, but all the mags are WWI technology and if you leave those loaded for any length of time the springs will take a set from what I am told. Wolf needs to bang out some replacement mag springs. would be a great california legal weapon tho also, thanks to the CMP 30-06 mil-surp ammo can be had for a pretty reasonable price. |
Meh. BAR was a little too heavy and the mag was a little too small. They could have easily made larger box mags, even with the technology of the time.
Enfield Jungle Carbine. That thing kicked ass. |
Quote:
I wont argue that the mag capacity was a bit on the small side.... But too heavy? I dunno about that, the M14s lack of weight made it unusable in fully automatic mode. How heavy would you have made it? |
I like my straightsword. Elegant yet has a bloodgroove.
|
I'm having a sword made for me right now from Albion Armourers.
It's the Lindsay family Discerner on which the sword from John Boorman's Excalibur was based. It will take 16 weeks to make but this is how it looks: http://www.albion-swords.com/images/...er/Disc_01.jpg http://www.albion-swords.com/images/...cerner_05a.jpg Hand Polished Silicon Bronze Fittings Twisted German Silver Wire-Wrapped Grip with German Silver Ferrules High Carbon Steel, Hand-Ground and Satin-Finished Blade Sharpened Individually Differentially Heat-Treated Blade It is actually balanced and battle-ready which is why it takes so long to craft by hand. But I always wanted the Excalibur from the movie. |
european blades never really did it for me :(
|
Straightsword.
i agree, something about putting a tassel at the of your blade makes it sexy. if anyone is into TMA, youtube some long tassel straightsword. The object is to keep the tassel inline with the blade. Very hard stuff to learn. It's on my todo list.
|
a tassel?
you mean like a tai chi sword? |
M14 F/A
Quote:
Full auto was a stupid idea in the first place on the Garand platform. The E3 model of the M14 was a joke at best. We had the M60 for full auto suppression. Did a decent job, I think. I'm not a fan of the M60: I had to use it in Afghanistan recently and it is not the most well designed automatic weapon of any era. Too many pieces and the barrel change is cumbersome to say the least. I still feel that the 7.62x39 round is superior to the 5.56x45 for modern short range combat. The 7.62x51 is a near perfect GPMG / designated marksman round. All these rounds have a niche in modern warfare. Big bullets do a good job of making big holes. Law of physics. (/rant) |
A fucking shovel.
The other day my wife's pet hermit crabs (don't ask) died and I walked to some woodsy area carrying the animals in a plastic bag and a shovel in the other hand, so I could bury them there. I started looking at the tool and thinking...It's heavy, both ends are metal, but it's easy to wield. Potentially very deadly. I heard that in WW1 and 2 they used to sharpen the edges of shovel so they could chop up anyone who would surprise them while they were digging the trenches...great for melee combat, I think. |
I wouldn't mind having one of these

Tetsubo.
http://crushingforce.com/db2/00181/c...s/tetsubo1.jpg You just can't go wrong with one. As much as I love firearms, I like something with defensive capabilities besides shooting them before they get to me. |
I would love to own a H&H Double Rifle .700, but that will probably never happen. However, I would also like a 1874 Sharps Buffalo Rifle 45-70 (reproduction is fine) or even a PTRD/S.
For general target shooting I would go with a Ruger 10/22, M1 Carbine or SVT-40. |
what are we killing?
