Cross Platform-PC/MAC Hide files - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

Ok, the million dollar question. I have searched the ends of the earth to see if there is a way to hide files between pc and mac OS. If I hide the files in a windows os, I can see the files in Find in the mac os and vise versa. Other than writing a java script does anyone know of a code to stop this action. Of course I know I am reaching here and TFP is my last stop.

I undestand using droplets to rename the files in Mac is one way of hiding files, but IE in Windows OS, shows these files as if they were never hidden.

If I write the java script in the Mac platform, to toggle the "true" and "false" for hide, thats ok, but again, in windows, it does not recognize the script.

THE MAIN QUESTION: Can anyone think of a way to add script content to be recognized and obeyed by both platforms.

It depends what you want to hide the files for. If you want to create hidden files not visible to a casual browser, then that's tricky. If you want to encrypt files or folders, such that the contents can't be seen, then that's easy.

Yes...the first one. YIKES!. I can encrypt with blowfish, but it does not stop the ability from people viewing the files I dont want them to see. Personally, if they do not know they are there, they won't try to hack or view. Anyways, I guess the person that figures this out will be set for a while since it is a hot topic right now. I am trying different versions of my own script, but have not had any success.

Well, if you encrypt them, they can see there's a file called foobar.jpg -- but they won't be able to see the contents. Now, if you use something like Jetico BestCrypt or PGPDisk, you can create an encrypted container on your harddrive and store files on it. That way, someone browsing your harddrive seens "container1.enc" or whatever, of size 20GB, and has no idea what's inside.

Then, you store all of your files on there and you're set. Otherwise, I'm not sure I can come up with a good solution for you

well, actually, I am creating a program to execute off a thumbdrive. I have tried to encrypt the containers, but it slows the data transfer to a slug. I will investigate your programs. I really appreciate all your input. It is nice to use someone as a sound board once and a while. I can post my script logic thus far if you are interested. I wish either mac or pc's would just shake hands and make up. It makes programming more difficult than it has to be.

GODZUKE! I just had a thought! I think I solved this whole thing with a cross platform script. I'll let you know.
