Can't go fullscreen in WMP?

In windows media player whenever I try to enter fullscreen it just goes black, then a few seconds later it reverts back to normal mode. Does anyone know a fix? I've tried removing all my codecs and reinstalling it over itself, but nothing seems to work. Help! :(

winamp.

Seriously, winamp. It's a LOT less of a hassle to deal with.

But, if you're intent on using WMP, try killing it and reinstaling the current version. Make sure you already ran windows update as well.

It's generally a bad idea to reinstall over an old install. Instead, you should remove the program completely and then reinstall from a new download. I'm pretty sure WMP is on Windows Update, so your best option would be to uninstall and then run an update, that should fix it all right up for you.

I wonder if setting the video acceleration to a lower level would help. Go to tools>options>performance and set it to about 50% and see if that helps any. Other than that, the only advice I have is use WinAmp.

Can winamp play videos in browser windows? Also I generally just keep my music playlist in winamp so loading videos into will clear my playlist out everytime won't it? Also, you can't uninstall WMP on XP.

That chick has issues. <a href="https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&release_id=314365">Media Player Classic</a> is much smaller, simpler, more reliable.

Who are you referring to as "that chick." For one, I like WMP. And second, just because I like something you dont, doesn't mean I have issues.

I'm not sure about the playlist clearing..but once you make a playlist you should be able to keep your library window open and just click on the playlist you want. There's a way to "uninstall" WMP on XP. I think it's under add/remove programs.. you should see a button for add/remove windows components. Just select what you want to remove (you may need the cd) You could also try TweakUI or the countless other windows tools out there.

I'm curious as to what "That chick has issues" means.

A little long winded...

First things first...

guccilvr suggested checking the 'performance' settings. Sound advice, although his suggestion works backwards for me, if that makes any sense.

I mean, the slider he mentioned...If it's too far left (good for screenshots), the video won't full screen at all. The slider has to be either halfway or all the way right for WMP to consider going 'full screen.' So, if I were you, I'd play around with the settings a bit.

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Performance tab.
Click Advanced.
Clear the Enable full-screen mode switch check box.

Note that for Windows XP, full-screen controls disappear if you stop moving the mouse and the cursor is not hovering over the controls. If you want the controls to disappear more quickly, you can clear the Display full-screen controls check box (also located on the Advanced dialog box). Or you can use the TweakMP Powertoy for Windows XP from the wmplugins.com page to adjust full-screen settings.

Addendum: They also suggest updating directx (click here)and updating the player itself (click here) - guthmund

If worse comes to worse and none of the above works, you could try to get rid of WMP and then re-install it.

To uninstall WMP, the option is there...it's under add/remove windows components. Once it's 'gone,' running Windows update should walk you through the re-installation.

I hope this helps...

ahh good stuff guthmund.. I didn't realize WMP wouldn't go full screen if acceleration was below 50%.. like duh ;)
