Convenient Backup Utility

I try to back up my data at the office regularly. When I bring it home, I load it onto my home computer, and check to make sure it's intact every once in a while.

The data are now approaching one gig in size. My flash drive is one gig.

Ideally, a backup utility would have a compression feature, and of course, a way to select folders to back up, as opposed to one that will only back up the entire drive.

Free is good, but reliability is the most important.

Anyone?

Exactly what sort of data are you backing up? Like, the entire contents of teh drive?

You could just use WinZIP or WinRAR.

What operating system are you using? Windows has a built in backup utility that allows you to select folders.

Not the whole drive. Basically a client database, but it includes graphics, too.

XP Home. I thought you have to install the backup feature on Home, but it's on mine already.

However, it won't let me use compression.

If it was me id just use winzip or winrar like they said b4. As for a devise that holds more than 1 gig. Ever think about dvd's? they hold 4.7gigs. They also sell bigger flash drives than 1 gig. Also you could get a external HD or a External enclosure and put a hd in it. For backup i use a 60 gig hd inside a external enclosure. But i also use DVD's if i want to travel light.

IOGEAR external USB 2.0 20GB hard drive

Yeah, a little external 2.5" hard drive would be affordable, and very small and portable.

I think I'll go the portable route.

Thanks to all.
