I posted this once before, but it was buried deep in a thread discussing Open Office, so I was not sure how many people may have seen it.

Here is a link for a public domain clipart collection.

August 8th, 2005 — Aug 1, 2005 A new release of the Open Clip Art Library is available for download, consisting of 4442 images submitted by over 443 artists from around the world.

Notice there is a place to request specific images, so the library is continually growing, and providing needed images. All placed in the public domain.

Awesome! Free stuff FTW!

Actually, some are released under a variety of other licenses, but they are all open and free as in speech. But please note that they encourage contributions, and clip art is simple to make. So, everytime you download a piece of clip art, you should also launch your favourite vector drawing program (Inkscape 0.42 is a great start, open source AND cross platform!), an create a new piece for the world.

You'll be famous, everyone benefits, and the world is a richer place. Open Source is more than freedom, it's a better way to compute.

New release...available.
 

Sept 7, 2005 UTC - Release 0.17 of the Open Clip Art Library
(http://www.openclipart.org) is now available on-line for download as an
individual package consisting of over 5000 images submitted by over 500
international artists. The size of this release successfully exceeds the
months "OCAL 5K Pledge" of 5000 images thanks to the contributions by new and
old contributors.

A quick overview of this release:

* Library consists of over 5000 images!
* New Clip Art Browser by Greg Steffensen
* Document Management System (DMS) now linked into website for testing
* New clipart_package CVS module for building packages
* Added RPM packages of the release

Due to the success of the "OCAL 5K Pledge," the next goal is for 10K images
(10,000 clip art images) by the end of 2005. The development community
encourages all types of artists to contribute images to the library this month
in support of the theme, Pets - one step towards the end of year OCAL 10K
Pledge.
