Annoying noise
coming from the fan on my video card. I a old geforce4 (correction I think its a 4 :P) ti 4200. I'm 99% sure its coming from the fan as I've taken everything apart. It sounds like its hitting something but theres really nothing to hit no wires dust anything. I totally disconnected the fan from the rest of the heatsink and it kinda stopped making noise but when I attach it back to the heatsink it makes the sound again. Will I be destroying my video card if I remove the fan and just leave like the heatsink?

It's not a good idea to run without the fan, but it's most likely that the bearing in the fan that's failing, but you can get replacements that are inexpensive.

really I was looking at some video card cooling things are they all like universal fit?
|
No, normally I just get a generic chipset cooling fan, the kit is about $10 from CompUSA and should fit pretty well, but if you take the old fan with you then you can get a size comparisson.

oh ok
http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/vanvgaandchi.html I found that, its kinda near me plus I wanna buy a case from them too. You wouldnt happen to know how to tell the difference between like " Note: All Lian-Li cases purchased from Monarch come with ball bearing case fans and come packaged in original Lian-Li packaging. Lower prices from other merchants may indicate the use of cheaper sleeve bearing case fans that are louder and do not last as long or not using original Lian-Li packaging. " (pulled from monarch website) the Ball bearing case fans and sleeve bearing? haha sorry for all the random questions. |
Check out this link, there are many vga cooling solutions to choose from, I'm sure you will find something that will work for you in just about any price range.
