Cooler Master Musketeer 2 Problems

What's up guys. I recently purchased a Cooler Master Musketeer 2 from Xoxide.com. I hooked it up via the instruction's every step, and turned my computer on. Everything seemed to work fine! It looks amazing. Then I noticed something.

The left and right channel audio are supposed to "stimulate" the needle on the left and right gauges on the Musketeer 2. However, when I play any sound from my computer, the left channel audio doesn't play. The needle doesn't move and the sound doesn't come through the left speaker. The right needle works fine and the right channel audio comes through fine.

So I plugged it into my roomate's computer and it worked FINE! Both channels worked flawlessly. Both audio signals came through each left and right speaker. So we did the usual: Switched speakers and switched soundcards. Every thing we tried yielded the same result: No left audio on my computer. Anybody got any ideas?

Barton 2500+
GeForce 6800 GT
2 X 512 MB Corsair XMS PC3200

My roomate's computer is completely different than mine, and it worked on his, so we are thinking it's possibly the motherboard or videocard making the left channel audio not come through. But that doesn't really make sense. Anybody got any suggestions?

I know this seems really simplistic, but when the speaker jack isn't completely in, you can get mono sound. Also, check the left/right balance in the Volume Control.

Did both.

I hooked the Musketeer into my brother's computer and it did the same thing (no left audio). He has the same motherboard, processor and GPU as me. I'm guessing it has to be one of those three causing the problem.

well the writeup on that site is obviously written by someone for whom english is a fourth language, so it's tough to tell exactly how it works. If you take the writeup literally, then it's responding to sound pressure - that is, it's measuring air pressure disturbances caused by the speakers when they vibrate. If that's the case then your left speaker is too far from its sensor.

I'm going to assume, however, that it really measures signal at the soundcard level, in which case it's not liking the signals your soundcard is sending.

you are correct on the "measures signal at the soundcard level" part. it doesn't actually measure sound pressure like xoxide says. the xoxide crew are like that. most of their descriptions are bogus in a funny way.

however, it can't be "not liking the signals the soundcard is sending" because the exact same soundcard worked in my roomate's computer. so it has to be something interfering with the soundcard. my motherboard or graphics card I'm thinking. probably motherboard.

Before you installed the Musketeer, did the sound card work correctly?

If it didn't work at all, I'd assume it was the card. However, since it worked on your roommate's computer, and not your brother's, my money's on the motherboard.

I'm assuming, of course, you have all updated drivers and newest version of the BIOS.
