WinDVD vs PowerDVD

I got WinDVD with my motherboad (why? I don't know...) and I was thinking of giving it to my sister who needs a DVD player for her computer. However, she got PowerDVD with her DVD drive. So, she now has a choice between WinDVD and PowerDVD.

So, which would you all recommend? WinDVD or PowerDVD?

I have always used PowerDVD and loved it. Today at work actually, a guy asked me to look at his Sony VAIO that had WinDVD with it. Wouldn't play a DVD for anything, not even in WMP.

I installed PowerDVD 6 and it worked like a champ.

Don't bother yourself, WinDVD and PowerDVD are the same, just branded and licensed to different distributors... (Example: SuSEX Linux or RedHat Linux, no difference in the program or performance, just different marketeers..)

I assume you are talking about SuSE linux and not SuSEX, as in that was a typo. And NO, SuSE and REDHAT ARE MOST CERTAINLY NOT THE SAME.

I've used both with no problems.

Does anybody know if what I suspect is true, namely that the programs some DVDs want to install on your computer are basically anti-piracy programs?

Like Intervideo?

I used to prefer PowerDVD but have grown tired of both programs' controls and overlay problems on secondary video. Compatibility varied widely between ATI & NVidia output. Lately I just use Media Player Classic with one or another MP2 codec. Simple, and it's much more predictable. No reboots required.
