Gmail Question
Well I have been using gmail exclusively for my email stuff and was able to click on people's email links and have it call up the gmail compose screen well now I have inadvertantly done something where it calls up outlook which I don't use. How do I rectify this? Windows XP, OFFICE 2003? Any help appreciated I am also using Firefox as my browser. Frustration.... thanks guys/gals.

Go to the "Control Panel", choose "Set Program Access and Defaults", click on "Custom", look for the "Choose a default e-mail program" and select a program other than "Outlook Express".
If you want mail links to go directly to your GMail account, I believe that you may need to have the GMail notifier installed. If you do have it installed, right-click on it, select "Options" and check the box that says, "Use GMail for internet mailto: links". Hope this helps. |
And make sure whenever you start up Outlook or Outlook express, you don't click on the "make this the default email program" I have my mouse auto move to the default button on dialogs, so I am always accidently clicking OK on that box. Frusterating, but easily changeable.

I've had the same problem... I've made sure the GMail notifer options are set as the default email, but Outlook kept loading.
I've seen a way to change a registry key in order to make "mailto:" links default to a web-based email, but I've forgot how. =( Ill do a search on it and if I find anything Ill post it... |
Yeah I have given up on it at work and switched to using Gmail through outlook express. Whatever, frustrating but I can't figure a way around what it is doing now I'll keep checking this thread thanks guys.
