DVD shrink help

I'm a total newbie when it comes to burning dvd's.

So far I've managed to rip the dvd I'm trying to create a backup of to my hard disk using dvd decrypter. I've got an ISO and an MDS file there now.

SO I'm trying to compress it so that I can burn it onto a single dvd. I'm using dvd shrink. I open the disk image (I've tried the ISO and the MDS files). Then I hit Backup. on the next menu I set the backup target as Hard Disk Folder, and the target folder or output files as C:\Title_of_Movie

After that I hit ok and it starts encoding. That works fine for a few seconds then it either just stops and shuts off, totally freezes or gives me an error message. I can't remember the exact message now since the last couple tries has only netted me the freeze up.

Any suggestions? I've been using the doom9 site but I can't seem to get it sorted and I'm hoping I'm just missing somethig stupid. Worth a shot.

Thanks in advance.

If I were you, I would try using DVD shrink to do everything, instead of trying to combine DVD decrypter and DVD shrink. I have been using DVD Shrink alone for a bunch of movies and I have had no problems...

No other ideas, sorry.

I use shrink for ripping, nero for burning. There is no need for decrypter. Shrink will compress the movie as it rips it.

I'll have to try that. I didn't realize you could rip with it. Only played with it to try and compress the file.

Alright I've tried it again using dvd shrink to rip it to my hardrive and I get the same error. The error says "Programming error - exception occured" "the handle is invalid"

any ideas on what that's about?

Google these two items. dvd43 and Patin-Couffin

Nero may even be your problem. shrink 3.1 had issues with nero, but it has been fixed, in 3.2

Had the same problem myself. If you're running SP2 then get the Nero patch to resolve some issues. Then do a fresh install of the latest DVDshrink and see what happens.

Keep in mind though that's a pretty broad error message, could be any number of things.

ToiletDuck has a pretty good point as well.

Thanks for the advice. I don't actually have nero on my computer though.

I'll look into dvd43 and Patin-Couffin.

Well I finally got it sorted by downloading an older version of DVD shrink. version 2.3 seems to work better for me than the new one. Go figure.
