DVD Burner MTBF - Mean Time Before Failure

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to gauge when a CD/DVD burner has come close to its MTBF? My 1 1/2 old burner (Optorite) has been very reliable up until this past week. It's spitting out coasters at almost 50/50 chance. Is there any program that can bench test it and let me know if it's time to shell out cash for a new unit?

Thanks!
