TV - Home Theater question

A couple of years ago, I got an RCA home theater/surround sound system. At that time I had an older TV that only had a coax input in it, so I was only running audio from my DVD player and sat dish box into the receiver.

I finally convinced my wife after 15 years that we need a new TV. Got a 32" Toshiba TV. Hooked up s-video cables from the DVD and sat box to the receiver and then a svideo cable from the receiver to the TV.

Most of the time the picture was fine, except the top two inches of the screen started warping. It would happen only randomly, but was happening when we watched a DVD or regular sat TV.

Figuring it was the TV since it was happening with both the DVD and sat box, I took the TV back to the store and got a new one. Samething started happening.

I finally got the idea to hook the DVD player directly to the TV and bypass the surround sound receiver. Amazing, no picture problems.

Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing the problem and how to fix it. I really don't want to hook the DVD, sat box and VHS machine seperatly up to the TV.

Thanks for any help that someone might have!

its RCA? eew. Go to your local high-end AV store and ask them to show you something from any of the following brands: Integra (GREAT), Denon, MCINTOSH, Krell, Parasound, etc..

I'm sorry, don't care for RCA at all.

It sounds like the receiver is just messing up. Can you take your receiver up to a Best Buy or similar and see if they can replicate the problem?

Also, are your stereo components separated or an all-in-one?

I'm on a beer budget. That's why the RCA receiver. The 20" TV that I replaced that is still working fine after 15 years is also an RCA. I don't need a high end appliance.

The receiver is a home theater surround sound system. All in one type system.

Well unfortunatly it'll probably cost more to fix than replace. What functionarily does it have built in that you need that a normal reciever doesnt? You can go to bestbuy or circuit city and pick up a fairly decent reciever for around 150-200 bucks. You wouldnt need new speakers assuming the RCA uses standard speaker wires to connect them. You definatly don't need anything as high end as bendsley mentioned for RCA speakers, it'd be a total waste. I know at bestbuy for 150-200 you can get a Kenwood, Sony, Pioneer, Yamaha, and probably a bunch more.
