Anyone know anything about shuttle pc's?

I saw this one for sale at best buy and yes I know it would be cheaper to build my own but im kinda lazy. Anyone know or heard anything bad about these pc's, ie over heat easy, p.o.s, anything?? thanx

Hey there Fugue, I actually put together a shuttle, I've been using it for two years now no problems, the ICE system that it uses for cooling works really well, I've overclocked my 2.4 to a 2.8 no problem with just the stock settings, putting it together was easy even though its small and I would suggest you go that route. You will be limited to 2 internal hard drives, and only one internal cd-rom but if your ok with that then I say go for it, also the power supply in my machine is only 200W but it can handle the newest vid cards no problem, the on board audio works great and you cant beat its portabillity, (they make a carrying bag for these) I even did a case mod for a big vga cooler so I could oc my vid card. With that all said after using this machine for 2 years I can say my next machine is going to be a Shuttle as well. If you have any more questions feel free to pm me.

I built one of these as well, though mine was an AMD platform based on the Via KM266 chipset. Had horrible HORRIBLE problems with it. For example, every time you plug in a USB or firewire device, the system just spontaneously hard reboots for no apparent reason. Could be that I got a bum motherboard, but unfortunately I can't seem to find anywhere that sells these motherboards separate from the chassis. That's another important factor you might want to consider.

I haven't had any of these troubles with my AMD Shuttle. Fairly easy to put together, a few hours at most. Pay attention to the return/exchange policy where ever you buy, I haven't had to return anything though. Best Buy may try to shaft you with plinko components. If you post actual specs and price people will critique it for you and possibly offer alternatives. be specific

They're noce and small. Look good too.

Make sure they're right for you though. You don't want to go adding a tv card or something and find out you're out of pci slots.

I've built 2 of them so far, not a single ever. I would buy a kit and build one yourself, that online best buy price seems a little steep.

We use Shuttle SFF boxes at work. I have configured at least 5 Shuttle boxes for our customers. I am quite impressed with Shuttle.

Can someone help me find the best video card and processor that are compatible with this system. Its only 250w so I read a couple places some vid cards will not work. The ram, hd and cd-drive's I got covered. Thanx again

Watch out because some of these cards have like the 6800 GT have a huge heatsink on them and you may not be able to use them without modding your case, and they might make your pci slot unusable due to space reasons, I do havea 9800 pro in my shuttle no prob. Shuttle also used to sell a better powersupply, not sure if they still do, but I think pcpowerandcooling.com sells a 1u 300W powersupply that may fit, you could contact them.

I used a Shuttle system for maybe 2 years up until just a few weeks ago. I used it for gaming and as such found that it overheated often. I had to leave the case off and use a desktop fan to help cool the interior. Other than that (and accidentally wiping out my BIOS, oops) I had little trouble with it. Well, if you don't count the hassle of installing components (but once it's up and running you're good). Mine was one of the early versions with only 1 AGP and 1 PCI for open mobo slots, and 1 5.25" drive bay and 1 3.5" drive bay. The newer ones have more options, I believe.

i appriciate all the help so far and I have ordered everything for my system except the video card. Currently I have a ati 9000 pro 128mb, so out of the list from shuttle which vid card will be the best bang for the buck or any recommendations besides the 9800xt or pro?? all im playin right now is WOW, runs beautifully at maximum settings. Also have the coupon to download hl2 and cs, but WOW is draining my life away so i haven't been motivated to download them
