PDF files and IE6
 

When I try to open a PDF file from a web page all I get is a blank page with a small logo in the top left corner. I can save the PDF file, then open Acrobat Reader, then open the file but that sucks ass. O' wise geeks, please help this ignorant one.

What is your internet connection?

I know, from experience, it takes quite a while to download a pdf file since pdf files tend to be over 1 MB at least in size.

Also, make sure your Acrobat Reader is up to date.

Its a broadband connection behind a firewall and I am using acrobat 5.0. There's 3 other computers on the network and they don't have this problem.

imaybe your acrobat plugin is not installed correctly, but acrobat itself is... that's why you can read the files outside of the browser? go into your Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS and look for nppdf32.dll

if you didn't have it, maybe copy it into there from one of the other computers. or maybe copy it over anyway, in case your .dll file is corrupted or something??

Have you tried just re-installing Acrobat Reader? Re-installation is like rebooting-- it usually fixes whatever the problem was.

Acrobat sucks. I've seen this many, many times on our company PCs. It seems that after a random amount of time, the Acrobat IE plugin just stops working and gives you a blank page. A lot of times reinstalling it doesn't fix it either.

If you can live with PDFs opening in a separate window, open up Acrobat Reader, go to Options, and disable "Web browser integration", "view in browser", or some similar option. The exact wording and placement varies from version to version but it's always under Preferences or Options somewhere.
