feedback needed for Samsung dvd writer - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

im going to buy a Samsung TS-H552B dvd burner
it has effectivly a 50% discount for me but 2nd hand reports are that samsung drives arent good and develop problems(esp with the caddy) after some time
so i need feedback from ppl here if u should go for it?
is the bookeeping/bitsetting thingie a big deal?

please reply asap...bid closes today

I'm not familiar with that Samsung Model in particular, but I've had two Samsung DVD read only drives, and they both stopped reading DVDs. The had no problems with CDs, but they stopped accessing information on DVDs. I've done some research, and found that other people have experienced similar problems with other Samsung DVD drives as well.
I'm not sure if this helps, but I thought I'd tell you what I've experienced.

this model is the only 16x dual layer support writer out yet i think

Maybe the only one from samsung, but definately not the only one on the market. Try pioneer, NEC, LG, asus, aopen, lite-on, etc. etc. they all have a 16x speed and dual layer burner. The newer ones even do 4x dual layer, instead of 2.4x.

i meant it was one only one available by samsung till now
and the discount is valid only for that model...i would also have preferred liteon or lg
