New Wireless Device Question

Greetings Everyone,
I recently purchased this:

Everytime I start my computer this device doesn't automatically connect to the internet. I have to "Repair" my network connection (from an icon in the startup bar). Is there anyway to correct this? Is there a way to configure this device to connect to the internet without me having to repair anything? Thanks

Have you tried re-installing drivers? Is windows seeing any other USB devices at startup? Is windows showing all USB devices as being on at startup in your hardware device properties?

Just a couple of guesses.

Make sure that you have the latest drivers for that installed. You can download them at Linksys' main website.

Also, install SP2 if running XP as it improves on the wireless components in Windows.

It is a piece of shit, my roommate had one, and the thing would constantly disconnect or lose its signal. He switched to an XBOX ethernet wireless connector and hasn't had a problem since...

Well, I have one and have no problems with it.

One thing you could do is simply leave it unplugged and just plug it in when you need it. That's of course if you don't use the internet everytime you turn on your PC.

Have you the latest drivers?

1. Yes, I have the latest drivers installed.
2. Yes, I have SP2 installed.
3. Yes, I use the internet like I use oxygen. I tend to get kranky when I am offline. Not having my morning coffee ain't got nothing on being offline.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

What kind of security do you have enabled on your WLAN? It's possible that Windows is not authenticating properly with the AP when you power-on. You shouldn't have to "repair" the link each time.

Have you always been getting these errors, or did you do something recently that might have triggered this activity?

I had a similar problem, but different router.

After I would run the setup program to install the drivers and setup my network information, using the linksys software, it would then ask me to restart the computer, so I would take out the cd rom restart, and nothing would work, or it would keep connecting then not being able to associate with the access point. I didn't realize that I needed to keep the cd inside the drive, even after the reboot, then it would go through the rest of the installation.

I have no problems with these units connecting my Tivos I love them they work without issue.

I have WEP enabled and MAC filtering. I am not using WPA and have set the router to only be Wireless B since there is no G in my house at the moment..
