KazaaLite PopUps, burned CDs and other unrelated stuff

just some stuff I had some questions about. didnt want to clutter the board with 3 different threads.

1. I use KazaaLite. lately (last week or so) ive been getting porn popups. anyone else getting this? any idea why? KLite is supposed to be spam free, or at least spyware free. Ive run adaware and my registry cleaner program and have nothing to indication I got infected by some new spy/adware.

2. I have burned a few music cds since I got my new burner several weeks ago. I have noticed that the burnt cds (compilations of tunes) skip almost constantly in my car player, on any bump, no matter how small. This does not happen with purchased cds. I have yet to try it out with a bit by bit copy of a cd. Wonder if the problem is A) cheap media, B) very old, cheap cd player, C) a common side effect of burnt cds, or D) a common side effect of burnt COMPILATION cds (ie, I heard once that regular cds have all data on them 3 times, for antiskip reasons. If so, then perhaps a burnt compilation cd does not?)

3. regarding fracturedminds no-post problem on the computer he/she just built: at one point he/she said something that seemed to indicate that he/she was trying to boot the computer WITHOUT ram. doesnt a PC REQUIRE ram? or will it post even without it? just curious.

1) It may not be kazaalite, but if it is, try the K++ version. It is a completely yuck free version of kazaalite. - http://doa2.host.sk/
It also has the ability to do continuous searches, which gets around the 2 search limit.

2) Its probably a combination. Cheap media is more likely to have problems. Add to that the fact that your burner isn't the same quality as the professional ones, and you are just adding up problems. Don't forget to add in the fact that your car cd player isn't exactly a home stereo system.
Fixes: See if someone you know will let you burn something on their burner. One with your regular media, and one with a higher quality (although that means high price, whether its better quality or not is anyone's guess). This will help you isolate whether it is media, recorder, or car player.

On the CD problem, what speed is your burner. I know some CD players have problems with CD's burnt with high-speed burners. Something to do with the density I think. I know using the same media, my wife's car will play a CD from my 12x burner, but not my 48x (even if I clock the 48x down). My car will play both.

Do any other players you have play the CDs?

1. You get what you pay for. mp2.5 (incomplete .mp3 files), porn pop ups, wrong movies.

2. You get what you pay for. I had an Alpine that skipped, returned it for warranty. It is not what you burned, it is what you are playing it back on. Does it skip on your pc? Just in your Pinto?

3. I read that twice. I think you were joking. Got me you dog!

Still laughing at 1, 2, and 3.

This needs to be moved to tilted humor.

i'd certainly try burning at a slower speed - that solves lots of problems (just takes more patience)

poof, these were serious questions.

"1. You get what you pay for. mp2.5 (incomplete .mp3 files), porn pop ups, wrong movies.

Im well aware of the nature of the files one can get from Kazaa. However, these porn popups are new. Ive been running KazaaLite for a while now and have not had a problem until very recently. wanted to know if I was the only one (which would mean a problem on my end) or if others were getting it too, which would mean something else.

"2. You get what you pay for. I had an Alpine that skipped, returned it for warranty. It is not what you burned, it is what you are playing it back on. Does it skip on your pc? Just in your Pinto?"

how did you know I used to own a Pinto? in any case, the cds Ive burnt played fine on any other player, or even in the car if it was not moving. But on the road, every little bump makes it skip. it IS an old cd player, which Im sure is the biggest reason. but I wondered if others had experienced similar problems due to cheap media or if the fact that I made a compilation cd (as opposed to a bit-by-bit copy of a purchased cd) made any difference.

"3. I read that twice. I think you were joking. Got me you dog!"

again, I was asking a serious question. Having never tried to power up a pc without ram, I have no idea what would happen. but I suspect it wouldnt even post. wanted to know for sure.

My apologies.

I thought you were having fun.

#1, Well, we established that.

On #2, I have used different media, and had limited problems. Skipping only occured when my Alpine went goofy.

#3, I think your bios won't allow such a thing.

Once again, I offer an apology for being callous, or arrogant.

I always had problems with CDs that were burned too fast. If it's a CD-R I'll always now crank it right down to 2x or 4x and just go and have lunch while it burns.

meanSpleen, I've only ever used K++, I didn't even know there was supposed to be a search limit. I've always had that K-lite Master rating cheat too.

I guess I'm spoilt.

update: checked today and the same skipping problem occurs with a bit-by-bit copy I made of a commercial cd. this suggests to me that the type of burn (ie copy or compilation) does not enter into the equation. I feel relatively certain that the cd player (even though its kinda old) is also not the primary problem, because it doesnt happen with commercially produced cds.

am guessing cheap media and/or the speed at which they were burnt (48x). next thing Im gonna try is a slow burnt cd.

I have been getting the same problem with porn pop ups and emails as well. Don't know if it has to do with KazaaLite or not. Have you switched to broadband lately? I found two spy programs in the software that came with the modem.

update: slow burnt (4x) a copy of an SRV album (Couldnt stand the weather) and took it for test drive. the skipping problem was lessened, but did not go away entirely. I think the problem is a combination of a) the age of the cd player, b) the tight installation I had to do when I put the player in the car and c) the car NEEDS new shocks and struts badly.

next I will try one of these slow burnt cds in a new car with a good quality cd player.

Yes you can turn on your puter w/o ram installed but all you get is a series of beeps... the beeps are a code as to what is wrong with your puter and (obviously) the beep you would get means your RAM is not recognized or improperly seated
