				DVD - R Burning question

			So,

I have all these files that are larger than 700 MB which I would like to burn. I own a Mitsumi CR-48X5TE Burner 8x top speed. (sucks I know) I went out and bought a pack of memorex DVD+R 4.7 GB disks to try and burn some of my stuff. You probably already know that it didn't work. I'm guessing it's because the CR burner cannot read the DVD disk. Can I make this happen? Or do I need to buy a DVD burner? If so, what other option do I have if I want to burn larger files than 700 MB with a CD-R burner? Thanks |

a CDRW drive can most assuredly only handle CDR and CDRW media.

You may wish to invest in a DVD-RW drive. Most of the chain stores have them as far down as $75 after rebates... If you're addressing the CDRW drive with a backup, rather than cd-burning, program, such as Retrospect, TapeWare, Veritas BUE, etc, you should be able to span backup jobs across media. Otherwise you could try a Zip or Rar program and make 650mb segments... |

Don't buy a DVD burner from a chain store. Never... They're all expensive as hell. When you need computer hardware always buy from Newegg

I for one prefer to plunk down the money and not have to wait for my goods.

Then again...since I work for a computer manufacturer...with a sweet employee discount...I'm oh so spoiled ![]() It's the same drive, and has the same warranty, no matter where you buy it. and $DEITY forbid it should be a DOA, wouldn't you rather take it back and exchange it on the spot, than have to ship it back for RMA? |

The office max in my area just offered DVD burners for $29 and $39 after rebate...

They had a dual format and just DVD+R for $29 two weeks ago but were out of the dual when I went there so I got the DVD+R then returned that this week because they had another Dual format for $39 after rebates.... Original Price Like $139 Minus $50 instant rebate Minus $50 mail-in rebate equals $39 bucks!!! now i just have to learn how to install the damned thing... and have to figure out what to use it for....
