Different Bit Torrent Clients? - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

I've been using Bit Torrent for about 5 months now, and I just started hearing about different clients. I've been using the original, and its worked pretty well for me, but its basicly featureless. What other options are there and what are the pros and cons of each?

Azureus (http://azureus.sf.net) is a nice graphic client written in java. Easy to use, but it does use up quite a lot of memory. (Well to be honest, it's not Azureus, it's the java engine that is a memory hog.)

I've found Azureus to work the best for me as well. But I've also used ABC in the past and it's worked well.. http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/

I used to run Azureus but it kills my resources.. bitsprite is pretty good..simple..

I recently made the move to Azureus from the old standard BT client. And I love it. Much more options, it looks nice and clean, however I am having problems with it it ends up killing my net connection...

I know very odd, I can use normal BT with no problems but if I hit the same link with Az it'll start out ok then end up crashing causing me to reboot.

I used Shareaza until I started having problems, then used Torrent Storm for a while, then went back to Shareaza when they went Open Source.

a ton of people on a torrent site I go to a lot use azureus.

I personally use bitspirit. Program works really well for me.

I use TorrentStorm and find its UI easy to use and work with and have thought about using Azureus, but TS works fine for me, so why change?

I've been through the vast majority of others, but this one always works and always works well.

I don't need pretty, I need functional.

Ok damnit, I'm pissed now...

I tried a couple of these other clients, but couldn't figure out how to set them up so all I had to do was click on a link and they'd start working, so I uninstalled all of them, uninstalled Bit Torrent, and reinstalled it, and now it won't work. Whenever I click on a link now it kicks me to an error page. Any ideas?

Is there anything that allows as much control as Azureus over the torrents yet does not use as much resources? I love Azureus, but it's definitely a resource hog.

was bitspirit one of them, because literally that's exactly how it worked for me. installed, click a torrent link, it opens in bitspirit. ez as pie.

Not than I've found, ABC is good but does not offer all the tweaks of Azureus. Of course one way to get around that is to set up a second system and run all your file sharing apps from there. I used to do that, until I had a Mobo fail.

The upside is the system does not need to be that fast since your not doing anything on it, plus it offers protection. If your running a router stick you file sharing machine into the DMZ and run anything you want, and leave your main system and data safe..

I must also recommend the use of Azureus. It has a great ease of use:functionality ratio.

ive tried all the clients listed here and honestly, they all have there flaws...

im now using a new client called bitcomet (www.bitcomet.com) and it rocks, only thing missing is and arrange function, like when i click on the % complete heading, i want it to automatically arrange all the current tasks from highest to lowest..

thats the only prob i have with it.. and its very nice on resources, unlike most, it only runs as 1 process, not one per connection..

I like Azureus, and its one of the most popular clients. Lets you queue up torrents really easily.

Azureus for me as well, used abc for awhile but liked the extra controls in Azureus.

I use Azureus, but it's writen in java, and as others have said, a resource hog (is using about 64 megs of memory....). BitTornado is also pretty good.

Torrentstorm has always worked wonders for me.. But neither Azureus or ABC would do diddly squat...

I've been using Burst for a while now and its great. I dont think anyone who like the fancy looking clients would like this one, but I've gotten the fastest speeds from this then the other clients (which im sure has nothing to do with the client itself). Just throwing the name in to the pile.
