Is P2P dead?
Napster died a long time ago; as did Kazaa and WinMX. Are there any current alternatives?
P.S. If there is a thread about this already, my utmost apologies. |
|
Kazaa is dead? I still use it every day...
|
Ah, I will look into BitTorrent. Thank you! First I need to find a non-pay site though. :p
|
limewire is another good site to try out.

Sorry bout that, fixed the link. Accidently put .com instead of .org, and the .com is a ripoff site.

Never mind the "Beauty Queens from Russia" advertizemnet... and kazaa is not dead, porn on kazaa will live on as long as I have an active broadband internet connection :D |

and this free site http://torrent.youceff.com/download.php  |
Suprnova is a godsend . You can get everything there. Missed a TV show? Don't worry, it's there. Unfortunately, I belive the authorities will be (if not already) setting their sights on this medium shortly.
The P2P model is nearly perfect. It's the ultimate 'on demand' service. If they charged a fee, I'd pay. |

Unfortunately don't see any hooverphonic. Guess I'll have to look into it if I get to leave work early again. Thanks all!

Try kazaa lite resurection. I use that and bit torrent. Also, try DC++ if you have a lot of stuff to share (there are minimum share requirements)
|
bite torent is good for movies and programs
SOULSEEK is the best for music |
and if you are looking for some dirty stuff try this place with ur torrent DL'r
http://torrent.youcexx.com/ |
Well i may be a bit paranoid, especially after getting a "Cease and Desist" from MGM, but i'm having trouble hitting the P2Ps anymore. Granted you should be fine as long as you don't leave them up and uploading to other people, but i'm just not that crazy about them. My issues with BitTorrent is that it tracks your IP, and it's really really easy for "them" to track you down.
If you want stuff, and don't mind putting in the time to figure it out, I'd check out newsgroups.....a good easy client is Newsbin Pro http://www.newsbin.com/ All you gotta find out is your local ISP's newsgroup server (could be something along the lines of news.ISPNAME.com) and then start downloading. It's good for you. |
Bearshare is great for music, I have yet to find a bad song.
|
it's dead for me. the college has seemingly restricted all the P2P programs.I even had to change port numbers to get aol im to work
|
I still use kazaa and winmx, daily almost, and bittorrent sites for larger items
|
Hey come on Emule is great - slow but steady. You can get new stuff from Shareconnector & Shareprovider.
|
I guess i am a big fan of soulseek and have yet to download a bad song or CD from it.

I will never use Kazaa again, after using Bit Torrent and Soulseek its sooooo slow...
In about the same time it takes to download 1 song off Kazaa I can get 1 CD off Bit Torrent. |
I'm a big fan of Bittorrent and mostly use Azureus. Another good place to find torrents is torrent reactor. They also list porn torrents (which suprnova does not).

I'm honestly surprised no one has mentioned Shareaza yet. It connects to many P2P networks, including Gnutella, Guntella 2, EDonkey2000, and Bit Torrent. Personally, I suggest you use a stand-alone Bit Torrent client, but that's just my opinion.

Make sure your going to Suprnova.org, not suprnova.com or .net...
.com and .net are scam laden pay sites... |
Kazaa Lite is great from Home, Ares for up at school, Azureus is my BitTorrent downloader
(there are many other ones you can use to download Torrents, Azureus seems the best). SoulSeek I really didn't sit down to try out, but my one friend up here swears by it. As far as I know, there is also Kazaa Lite Resurrection, which is headed up by some guy from Russia. And for Torrent, use Suprnova.org, like everyone else said, there's no site that even compares to it to my knowledge. You won't have trouble downloading anything except the most obscure/non-mainstream stuff... I love it. |

My school throttles down the P2P ports, but Ares seems to do a good job transferring files anyway. I would recommend this, or soulseek. |
soulseek confused and belittled me. I thought about figuring it out but got Shareaza instead and now i'm happy.
|
I get all my stuff off of Youceff, Suprnova (.org) and use Shareaza to get the work done. I also have a darknet that I am always connected to.

Soulseek, Gnucleus, even good old freenet (slow, but good for finding just about anything from music to classified documents, as long as you can avoid the kiddie porn.)
|
If you want info on any of the p2p programs or just looking to d/l them. Check out http://www.zeropaid.com/ they like to most of them.
|
any public torrent site, anybody can watch what IP's are downloading which files.
I don't like that at all. better to join a torrent site, where you have to agree to terms that you're not one of "them"....and there are never "fake" files, or poor quality. faster too. |
i use Soulseek and Bittorrent (mostly suprnova torrents, but i do belong to a number of join sites as well) every day. they're great.
as someone above said, emule and dc++ are slow and steady... i don't use them often but they're there just in case. i'm now going to investigate limewire. |
Movies: IRC, Usenet, FTPs
Music: IRC, Shareaza TV: Bittorrent Books: IRC Games: IRC, Bittorrent Apps: IRC, Demos+Cracks.am IRC is probably the best resource for anything, except for a lot of stuff you really have to know where to go in order to get it. Packetnews is a great resource, but if you stick with a solid group long enough, a number of people are able to get rips of tons of older stuff. TV is the only thing that I find Bittorrent really excelent at as I'm not too happy with the groups that release TV on IRC. Hrmm..maybe I should do something about that... |
There are a few threads like this where I've said the same thing, but here's another vote for BitTorrent and eMule. BitTorrent is one of the best ideas out there, especially for fast transferring of new content. By design eMule and especially the new experimental serverless sister client Kademlia (Kad, which comes enabled by default on the new emule) will have the most longevity.
Torrents are usually more short-lived -- they rely on a lot of participants, popular content, and the reliability of servers. They also tend to be faster since all participants are constantly active. Sure eMule is slow compared to BT, but the fact that you get credit for uploading and often end up uploading more or just as much as you download ensures that content won't die. It's also got a rating system to flag fake or foreign-language content which is cool. And Kad is bad ass -- it doesn't rely on servers, as every participating client acts as a mini-server that each does a small part. You can read about it here, the design is very well thought-out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kademlia |
try soulseek...if you are looking for music,it is great!
