Looks like Hotmail finally stepped up to the plate....
Looks like Hotmail finally stepped up to the plate with more storage space -- I just logged in and found I now have 250MB, more than Yahoo but still not nearly as cool as Gmail. Check it out, in any case!
Are you quite sure? I just logged in right now, and its still telling me I only have 2MB. But then I only use hotmail for MSN chatting, so it doesn't really matter... hotmail would still suck, even with 250MB.
I just made an account to check it out. I only got 2 megs. Thats no stepping up to the plate as i see it. I'll stick to my email from my ISP and my 5 gmail accounts.
All free hotmail acounts will have 250MB and the ability to receive/send 10MB attachments.
I believe that all acounts should be upgraded by the end of fall. |
And it's all Google's fault.
Actually hotmail still sucks as a mail service, but I've had my account for years (it's my last name only) and I've been sick of having to constantly log in and clean out my junk mail since it's just under the 2mb limit.
And yeah gmail rocks, I love it. I'm trying to move to it as my primary webmail acct. I think their marketing and business plan is great -- the invite-only thing adds to the desire of people to be in the "in crowd", and the 1GB storage is bad ass. It's great how Google has forced all the other webmail portals to up the ante a little :D |
Yeah, it's cool and all, but you can get 1GB for free and NO invites with walla.com *shrug*
or spymac for that matter
wow. Spymac looks REALLY cool. Not only does it ave 1GB of e-mail, but it has POP3 access as well :D Neither GMail or Walla can say that. AAAND, it has 100MB of web space as well as some other cool features (especially if you're a mac user). Thanks - I finally know what e-mail service I'll be using once I graduate and lose my school e-mail.
EDIT: However, there is something disturbing in their license agreement.... Quote:

I just checked my hotmail account and still no upgrade from the 2 mb.
As for spymac, I remember the reason why I never bothered with them it's reports like this http://www.emailaddresses.com/forum/...?postid=251236 Quote:

I haven't had any problems with spymac so far, at least that weren't temporary. For a while some of the messages would show up in inbox but nothing would show up in the box when I went to view them. Might have been a browser or virus problem.
250mbs is great and everything but I'll stick to yahoo, atleast there I don't 100's of junk mail a day.
Using Spymac as of now. Hopefully I can find a way to incorporate this and my ISP as my
two main E-Mails, everything else goto my Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. |
I'm still suffering at 2MB. Has anyone been upgraded since this message was last posted?
2MB here as well. :(
even if hotmail gave a gig, I wouldn't use it. The day I signed up my account, I started getting pr0n spam. I didn't put the email addy out there anywhere, and I'm getting horse fucker emails. fuck that. I stick with yahoo/gmail/email w/my website. I would never allow my kids to sign up for a hotmail acct, just because of the spam that immediatley floods the inbox.
now, do yahoo and hotmail run the same schemes where they keep tabs on every piece of mail (or whatever gmails does) like gmail does?
I don't recieve any 'horsefucker' spam, at least not anymore. Not even in my junk mail. The worst i get is ---_C_i_a_l_i_s_--- mail. And refinancing my mortgage. I don't have a mortgage. As far as I understand it, hotmail does not admit to scanning or archiving mail that goes through the servers. There are no targeted marketing campaigns that have been exposed, although you could ask the boys and girls in Paranoia. I signed up with a secondary hotmail acct that has since expired, but I never told anyone the address. I used it to sign up for the Cook's Illustrated website. It remained spam free for over a year.

I'm calling BULLSHIT on the whole everyone gets more space. Its been well over a month and I still have 2mb. I think someone paid for extra space and forgot about it.
Nope, it's true. I got 250 awhile back without asking for it and I most definitly did not pay for it. I could care less really since I hardly use the address anymore, I just keep it for a few odds and ends.
I got my 250 MB a couple of days ago. I only use that account for site signups. At least now I won't have to clean it out every 2 weeks.
Finally got mine tonight, gone from having to delete Junk mail every day or so to save space to less than 1% used, woo and hoo.
i still have 2mb, do i have to do anyhting to get the 250mb?

I'm still only using 1% of my gmail, I suppose I'll be okay.
Allright! As of half an hour ago, I've received my upgrade to 250MB.
For those of you that have received the storage upgrade, how long have you had your accounts? I have had mine since January '02 and still no upgrade. Also what web browser and operating system do you use to access your Hotmail account? If Yahoo could upgrade all their accounts at once I don't see why Hotmail can't do the same. Both of my Netscape accounts have been upgraded to 250 megabytes.
ahaha, I like how a couple people reiterated horsefocker. I'm telling you, within a day of signing up for hotmail, I got beastiality spam. ridiculous.
I've had mine since '02 and still no update for me. Maybe everyone else is special.
But then again i never have had one piece of spam on it. Which i'm sure is not normal, so maybe i am special after all. hehe |

Whoa, you're right, i've got 250 MB, but can only send up to 10MB attachments though.

Adding to the mix: I logged in to my hotmail (for the first time in a month) and also had the 250 MB of space... maybe it's a user thing? I've had this account for about 5 years now and never changed it, so maybe that has something to do with it  I know I sure as hell wouldn't pay for extra space, I have another account I use primarily because my hotmail gets too much spam. |
On November 2nd, I had both my hotmail accounts upgraded to 250 for no particular reason. I've had one for about five years, the other for three. I haven't received spam at either for a couple years. Never had much, actually. I use outlook to check and send with both of them.

Here is a copy/paste from Hotmail:

Still 2mb here as well. Those bastards.
I'm still at 2MB. It is probably true that it will take a while for them to get to everyone, but it just seems that they've been saying that they would upgrade our accounts for a looooooooooooooooooooong time..... I'd swear that they even sent out an e-mail stating that the upgrades would be done by the end of summer....
Hey, between when I posted that last message and now they upgraded me. Now I don't have to clear messages every day.
Hardly use mine. Just go and clear out spam every couple of weeks. Just checked and sure enough its at 250M.
Finally mine was upped. I don't use it, but now it big enough to start.
Mine has been upgraded sometime in just the last day.
OK, Mine got upped in the last 3 hours since I checked it. Why the heck would it take so long to get this done?
i just got the 250 mb, at least i can send files to myself now
Just got mine
I still don't have mine yet. Our email at work has been upped, but not mine yet. Damn you Hotmail!
I should mention that they upgraded my account last night, so maybe it won't be too long for everyone else to get their accounts upgraded.
Mine has been upgraded for quite sometime now. Although I was at 99% full for quite a few months :D
I just got it too. I dont know why so many people have problems with spam/junk with hotmail. I get like 1 or 2 junk mails a week, with all the filters turned off
Mine is now up to 250M. I could never delete any msg, and never use that much space.
I get about 10 of the standard Junk mails every day. |
Still at 2 MB here ??

I never got this....I am still at 2 MB
Yea i checked it out...I definetnly approve of the 250 mb storage limit :) It is a vaste improvment...and as much as it cost microsoft...i think the gain for them will be much greater.
Just got mine. The bliss. Took their time though.
yahoo is following suit, upgrading from 100mb to 250...
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...pcworld/118598 |
Finally it came Dec 4th 2004
my X-mas present from MS |
Still don't have it. I really like how Hotmail has been making a fuss about giving more free storage for 6 months now (and still not delivering), and how Yahoo just did it "under our noses" without muttering a peep beforehand. I just checked my mail one day, and noticed in the right side, "wow, I have 250MB now!" Good job Hotmail, you bastards. I really don't care if they come through with it or not, and I never really cared that much to begin with.
At least now mp3s can be sent through e-mail.
I have Hotmail and bought the plus a few years ago when I was doing graphics and wanted a way to go from PC to PC without carrying the files on CD-R and I have 2GIGS of Hotmail Space and can send files up to 25mbs. That kicks ass, except that is still Hotmail. My junk mail folder gets about 78 mailings a day of pron and debt free programs.
