Kenwood KDC-X715 problems
So, in my car, I have a Kenwood KDC-X715 CD receiver, as you may have surmised from this thread's title. It worked out great, until a few days ago. I pushed "eject," the faceplate slid open, I put in a CD, and… nothing. The faceplate stays open and refuses to close. The CD is trapped in the player. I can't play the radio, I can't play that CD, I can't do anything. Anyone know how to fix this?

Try and push the reset button - usually a ball point pen sized hole on/behind the face. And/or pull the harness for 5 minutes and plug it back in.
You can also try and 'trick' the cd mechanism by inserting another CD into the opening and see if it tries to grab it (dont let it!). Sometimes the loading mech. gets messed up and doesnt realize there is a disc insterted. |
When I push the reset button (I tried this a few times) it attempts to go back up, then comes back down.
What do you mean by "pull the harness"? The entire unit? I can't try to put another CD in because of the two metal bars that slide in and block the CD. Thanks for your suggestions. |
Did you ever have any luck resolving this problem? My deck did this same day yesterday. A friend of mine w/ a 715s had this happen to him a couple weeks ago. Would love to hear a solution besides throwing it out the window.

I had this random occurrence as well. Another variation on the same issue is where I would hit eject and the faceplate would slide down... but the disc would never eject. The only way I was able to work around this was to take another CD, and stick it in the slot as if I were trying to insert it... this would usually trigger the load mechanism and in effect (I guess) reset the disc that was already in the player. That has worked for me 100% of the time so far. It seems to happen randomly and I've managed to put up with it so far. It still sucks, but it works.

crapola
apparently I am now suffering from the same problem that the rest of you are. I first thought you were describing something else... now I realize the difference. It was totally random, the stereo was working fine... I stopped to get some gas, got back in and kablooey, no response.
I'm about to pull the bastid to see what can be seen. I'll call Kenwood if I can't figure it out myself and I'll let you all know what happens. |
yeah, we're screwed
You can call kenwood to try to find a local service center... or you can chuck the p.o.s.
This thing worked like a charm for me for about 2 years... I bought a new car and it took me about another year to finally get around to putting it in the new car. About two weeks after I get everything done, it sh*ts the bed. wunderbar |
