Anti-Virus software question
I know this is a pretty basic question but I have never dealt with it and so I am a little usure. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
I have a friend who wants to install anti-virus protection on his 3 computers at his work. I don't know much about the network he has set up there, but assuming his internal network is based off from a dynamic ip - is it possible to just go out and buy Norton and install the same copy on all 3 computer stations. I guess my question is will Norton allow updates from multiple machines or will he have to look at some kind of liscencing - and if so what kind of expense might this be. Thanks for your help in advance. Just to clarify - I am not looking to pirate any software or do anything illeagal like that - I am just interested on how I would install an anti-virus program on 3 different staions assuming they're sharing the same Internet connection and what kind of cost might this incur. Thx. Last edited by limey; 06-03-2004 at 07:30 AM.. |

Actually, unless you buy 3 copies of norton, or a corporate license, you are talking about pirating.
I'm not sure of the going rate for Norton, but buying 3 copies instead of a corporate is probably going to be cheaper. Alternativly, you could use a free software such as AVG. The downside to the free services is that most of them do not update their definitions as often as the fee based services. |

edit: I would choose AVG or Kaspersky in the coporate locale over Norton and McAffee anytime.

Hello, good evening, and bollocks.

For the longest time I didn't have any antivirus software installed on my home computer but instead used Housecall once or twice a week and don't remember ever getting a virus that caused any damage.
It's a free online scanner and you can put it on as many computers as you want. It's updated regularly enough and corporate-quality as far as I'm concerned. My only complaint is that because of its online nature, it can't Quarantine, but it's cleaned everything it's ever found just fine. Give it a shot! |
