Cool Towers
I went out looking at towers with my friend today for a computer I'm going to build sometime over the summer, and I found one computer that looked to be cheap (Under 200 with power supply), quiet, and looks nice.
Cooler Master wavemaster- ![]() Getting it in black. Saw it at fry's today, and it looks really slick. Anyone else know of any other nice, cheap, quiet towers? |

Yeah, first thing I thought of was Lian-Li like Xsas said. I'd hit up a Warrior if I was gonna spend that much on a case (I've never spent more than $50 on a case).
http://www.xoxide.com/newlianli601.html It's a little over $200 though. Check out all of the Lian-Li cases: http://www.xoxide.com/lianli2.html I'd LOVE to have any of those. -Lasereth

What Lian Li do you have now, sixate? And why do you hate the wavemaster?
And that one you mentioned Lasereth is out of my budget. I'm looking to spend 200 on a tower AND power supply, or a few dollars over that. Last edited by Xsas; 05-14-2004 at 10:17 AM.. |

I added a window to mine. I'd put up a pic, but I haven't taken any recent ones since I upgraded a few months ago. I just think the WaveMaster is an ugly case. Although, it's better than most that I see, but IMO it just doesn't compare with a Lian-Li. |

My personal fave - http://xoxide.com/thxavwiv7.html
Haven't bought one yet, who knows, maybe I'll make some cash this summer and buy one. Then stick the APU figure "Mifune's Last Stand" in the case.

I just spent $90 on the base Lian-Li case (pc70, I think... black one). Lemme tell you what--its the best $90 Ive ever spent on a computer part. At first, I couldnt bring myself to spend that much on a case, but now that I did it, I am so glad. Its *incredible*, especially coming from the POS I was using before (which is now my Linux box, which I am typing this on
![]() Edit: Its a PC-61.

Cases are NOT dead quiet. PFFT.
Lots of cheap cases will be made out of overly stiff material which vibrates more than, say, aluminum, and as such it will generate more noise (especially when it's on a desk that vibrates easily, as well). This can be cut down by throwing a little bit of foam in/under the case to absorb the vibrations, but the case will still be vibrating somewhat and generating a little excess noise, in addition to sometimes making CD-Rs skip, and generally fucking with your system. This isn't a huge problem, but it IS something to watch out for. For fans, a 120 mm fan is quieter because it can push the same amount of air at a lower RPM. Of course, in my opinion the best solution is a temperature controlled fan (or two or three)... that is, it changes RPM based on the temperature inside the case, meaning it's only as loud as it has to be. You need to make sure you have a motherboard that can do that, though. That's all I can think of now. |
