Computer fans screaming every now and then..
I wonder is one of them is broken... (the cooler fans..)
Is there a program you can run in windows where you can see the temperature of the CPU? (other way than in the beginning briefly) Thanks for info ! <---- Rookie... :) |

bearings are going. need new fans

If your mobo isn't supported by motherboard monitor, you can usually see your temp in your bios.
|
if I have a fan that starts to whine I take it out and either a) sledge hammer it or b) put it in a computer where sound doesn't matter (server or something)
|
I agree. it sounds like the fan is about to die. definatly replace before it causes a problem.
|
price of new fans are pretty cheap.
price to replace nicely cooked motherboard or CPU is quite high. The fan may still be healthy but i'd definitely pay a bit to replace it for peace of mind. |
Sometimes a can of compressed air and a little WD-40 can extend the life of a failing fan another year or two.
I usually do this to my fans every third month. I've had the same ones going on 5 years now without any slowdown or problems, and my systems are always running 24/7. Although it's up to you when dealing with a CPU fan. |
Great.
Thanks guys!
It's so great that you can always rely on Tilted people for advice !! :) |
Can you still hear them Clarice? The screaming of the fans?
tape some pennies to the fan or your case. Some of the time it is a vibrational problem beween the fan and your case. Adding a little weight can change the harmonics. |
