Adware problems

Does anyone know how to deal with Adware problems? I run Norton utilities and it tells me that they are there. I try to get rid of them and it says they're still there. Please help!

<a href="http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/">Ad-aware</a> and <a href="http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=mirrors">Spybot</a>

i'd NEVER give up my Adaware or Spybot for Norton. While I like norton for some things since it's easier then me doing stuff manually, Adaware and spybot are much more indespensible.

you guys aren't understanding what I'm talking about. Adware, not Adaware. Adware is treated like a virus by norton. It is actually files that are downloaded with music and other downloads that help popups get started. It really slows down the computer. It's not just as easy as finding the files and deleting them. If you delete the wrong stuff it can screw up your computer.

I think what they meant was: use Adaware to get rid of adware.

Yes, that is what they are talking about perripken, Adaware is a program that gets rid of the nasty stuff.

Follow the links above and you should be home free.

And quit downloading music from the internet!!!! It's not going to help you in the trivia thread!!

j/k

Norton's "adware" protection and detection is crap imo. SpySweeper has been consistently ousting adaware and spybot in the last dozen tests ive run on unsuspecting customer computers )

Run Adaware, Spybot, and SpySweeper. That'll get rid of all of it most likely.

This is exactly how I do and in that order too. Seems that the next one always ends up catching something the previous program didn't.

So then in theory, you could just run that last program and be done with it :D

Spybot and HijackThis. all you really need

Thats exactly what I thought. Then I pulled off a little test and even if you do it that way the last program which would be Ad-ware still finds spyware. Its really damn weird I can't seem to figure out how the hell that happens.

Thanks a million everyone! Thank God for the TFP, we have the most intelligent people, me thinks! I will give it a try once I get back online at home!

One thing I've found with Ad-Aware is that you need the latest build. Every month or two I go back and download the latest and install over the old one. The current build is 161. Anything older will miss a lot of stuff. Also: I recommend doing a custom scan, and checking every red box under every heading. The other day I found over 1500 adware files on a customer's computer. After rebooting, ran Ad-Aware again and found another 200+. Her P4 2gihz computer with 500 mb's RAM was running like a 386 when I walked in. She had no idea.

Thanks again!
