adware
I am looking to eliminate the GAIN Network (which is embedded in "free" programs and creates "pop-ups" while on-line) from my computer forever.
It is currently in two applications, one is Divx Pro, the other a cheap 'Freeware' game. I am concerned they may contain spyware. I am no computer tech at all, so you may need to go slow. Is there an application (preferrably free) that I can download to help eliminate my problem? I have an old computer and would like to save all of its capabilities for stuff I want it to do! Does the 'adware' I hear about eliminate these things? Any info helps. Specs: Windows 98 HD: 2.2G Processor: Intel Pentium (II?) |
You need Ad-Aware 6.0 to get rid of that garbage. Go here: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...id,7423,00.asp and download it for free.

Yep. Ad-aware and Popup Stopper are great. I know there's a lot of others out there, but those two have worked for me for quite a while.

SpyBot is great, but I have NO idea on how to stop Spybot from doing a full-PC scan every time I boot up... which is my only problem with it.

Boco, zf0enix, KWSN - many thanks. I feel better about my system now.
