Questions about Thermaltake Silent Boost

I recently bought a Silent Boost heatsink for my Athlon XP 2500+ and on the instructions it tells me to put this "High Thermal Conductivity Compound" on to the processor. I have heard that if I put cooling compound on the processor, I can kiss my warranty goodbye. Hence my worry: If I don't put this compound on the processor, will the heatsink still work properly?

If I figure out how to post images I will put one up.

I'm not totally sure but I think from being around the Computer Forum for awhile I've learned that you do waver your warrenty if you use Artic Silver but you could still use a thermal pad.

Arctic Silver does void the warranty, but regular thermal grease does NOT.

If you do NOT use thermal grease, there's a good chance your processor will get incredibly hot.

I'd put some regular thermal grease on it, and Arctic Silver if you're willing to void your warranty.

Lasereth always on the money, and faster than me to boot. Also, nice choice on the fans, I'm pretty sure the silentboost runs panaflos. (super quite and powerful fans)

Thanks for the compliments guys! Good to know that my hours spent reading hardware reviews all day are getting put to use.
