Intel Price Drop
Don't purchase your next choice in a CPU yet!!
Fallin prices soon. Just thought someone might want to know! http://money.cnn.com/2004/01/28/tech...ex.htm?cnn=yes |
and they'll still be overpriced! :p
link us when AMD slashes the Athlon64 prices ;) |
True True ! I'll do that ,but they haven't realeased anything yet I checked.
|
ill take my P4 over an AMD any day.
|
the only thing worth the price (and it's still steep) is the Hyper-Threading P4s. everything else is a joke. you can get a processor from AMD that will beat out ALL non-HT P4s for 90 bucks. the die hard nerds know which one I'm talking about. and if you step into the hyper-threading territory, you will have something special, but you still can't beat the price of some of AMD's chips. the performance is much better for the price.
intel has the "god-chips," but you definitely pay for it. |
For us budget-minded people, AMD is a great thing.
It would totally suck if all we had were shitty $50 Celerons. |
Seriously, unless you buy a HT P4 there is no reason to buy an intel at all.
AMD 2500+ is and has been the best chip on the market for a while, where value is concerned. Of course, you'd be a fool to run it at 2500+ when it can be OC'd to 3200+ w/ a stock heatsink and only half-decent ram--maybe stick a couple of extra fans in the case. *edited because 3500+ is wishful thinking and was a type... I meant 3200* |
Just did a pricewatch check and noticed that 80 bucks can get you this 2500+.
Of course, you could get a (chuckle) 2.3 ghz celeron for the same price. Or a 1.7 ghz P4... whoops... that costs 100 bucks. Make it a 1.5 ghz P4. Reaffirming that, for most people, Intel completely blows. On the other hand, if you are loaded and want the best computer money can buy, get a P4 w/ hyperthreading. They are FAST!!!!!!!!!! And you can OC the hell out of the FSB, from what I've heard. I'd be afraid to OC a 450 dollar cpu though. It would be scary as hell putting on that heat sink. |

Whoops... I meant 3200+... my bad.
3500+ would be overkill--err, overkilled. My bad. Some can reach this speed w/ stock hs, some need to buy a Volcano or Thermaltake or something... I would. But with great airflow, it should be doable w/ a stock fan w/ a little luck. |
